Eugene de Kock, former death squad leader, has been on the witness stand for days detailing murders, arson, bombing, etc which were authorized by the apartheid government.

His latest news is that they had a hand in the murder of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme on February 28, 1986. Palmer was a very vocal critic of South African racist policies. In 1986 he took his wife to a movie and they were walking home on a public street when an unidentified gunman shot him once in the back with a .357 magnum. Swedish authorities have suspected South African involvement but had no proof. Lars Jonsson, deptuy director of the police investigation in Stockholm told Swedish news agency TT that some of the information was new.

Palme had fought to impose trade and cultural sanctions against the South African government. de Kock said Craig Williamson, head of "Operation Long Reach" was responsible. Long Reach was a South African military intelligence program. Williamson infiltrated and spied on anti-apartheid groups in Europe in the 1970's. He returned home in 1980 when his cover was blown and became second-in-command of the foreign section of the security police and was responsible for covert operations. de Kock also said Williamson directed the 1982 bombing of the ANC's European headquarters in London.
