SVEROK is an association for Swedish Gamers. The association has been
cleared by the Swedish goverment as an organisation they can rely on
to 'improve' the youth of today. What this means is that people
actually can get money for playing games.
SVEROK (Swedish Rolplaying and Conflict Gaming Federation) is a non-profit organization for all
kinds of gamers, including computer games, live-roleplaying and paintball.
The main purpose with SVEROK is to support gaming in Sweden. We are doing that mainly by
distribute money to clubs, spreading information and helping with starting new clubs, and act as a
representant in the Swedish youth council.
Up to this date we have about 750 clubs with 18000 members altogether (1,5 per mille of Sweden's
population). Over 90% of the members are between 15 and 25 years old. The clubs are spread all over
Sweden. SVEROK has no connections to political and religous organisations and we do not accept
clubs with such connections.
SVEROK is a democratic organisation, ruled by the clubs. In effect they, once a year, elect a board
which operates the federation over the year. The members of the board is unpaid. SVEROK does not
rule the clubs in any way. Its free of charge for a club to be a member of SVEROK.
SVEROK is supported by the goverment, and this year we will get about $320,000. Most of the money,
55 %, is handed to the clubs for their gaming. About 20 % is spended on administration, 15% is for
federation projects and 10% to other things, such as international projects, mainly with the nordic
countries.
SVEROK publishes a magazine wich is printed in 2000 copies and is distrubuted to all our clubs, other
interested gamers and gaming stores.
SVEROK is divided in districts. Some of those get economic support from the "landsting" (a swedish
name for a political district, just below the national goverment). A lot of the clubs also recieves money
from their city councils.
SVEROK is now increasing its activities in the other nordic countries with the intention to help the
gamers to start similar organisations. Denmark has been the most succsessful so far and Norway is
trailing. SVEROK has also begin to take contact with organisations in other parts of the world.
