Freely distributable Tolkien computer games
The Tolkien computer games pages always were and still are primarily
intended for reference. Nevertheless, many people are naturally interested
in downloading those free games which exist on the Internet. To that
purpose, this page has been reorganized. It should be understood, however,
that there are no local copies of most of these; only external links. I can
in no way guarantee that all links are current and up to date. If you find
any links that do not work, try again tomorrow and if they still do
not work contact me so that I can try to fix
them.
The systems for which the games are downloadable are noted in
parentheses. In many cases it is possible to play games for
another system than the one you have by means of an emulator.

Commercial games for which free scenarios exist
Previously commercial games which are now freely distributed
If there is no download copy of any of the following games for
your particular machine, that is either because I have not been
able to find it on the Internet or because free distribution of
that version is not allowed.
- The Boggit (ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Amstrad
CPC)
- Bored of the Rings (ZX Spectrum, Commodore
64, BBC)
- The Fellowship of the Ring Software Adventure
(Apple II)
- The Hobbit (ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64, Oric-1,
Amstrad CPC, BBC, MSX)
- The Hobbit Software Adventure (Commodore
64, Apple II)
- Lord of the Rings: Game One (ZX Spectrum,
Commodore 64, Amstrad CPC, BBC)
- Shadowfax (VIC 20, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum,
BBC)
- Shadows of Mordor (ZX Spectrum, Commodore 64)
Games with source code
Note: some of these are for older systems,
such as Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum or Apple II, where BASIC source
code was always "tokenized" to save memory. To convert
these to other systems you may need special utilities and/or an
emulator.
Freeware/shareware games that are not downloadable
The following games are probably freely distributable, but are
not available on the Internet. This is either because I am unable
to find them or because I am somewhat uncertain as to whether
they really are free. If you can help with any of these, please contact me.
