Using LDB To make Scratching sounds
By Zap (www.Master-Zap.com)
The short version:
LDB can make very authentic scratching sounds. The trick is simple -
use alternating backwards and forwards notes, but:
- Turn off "Trigger Sample" on all notes but the first
- Set the first beat to play the sound forwards, the second backwards,
the third forward.... and so on.
- Use varying glide and frequency for each note.
The Long Version (Step by Step)
- Launch LDB
- Click on the track properties button of the first track
- Pick the sound "sounds\misc\ru_ready.wav"
- Now click one hit on the first tick (first tick with a dot in
it), and one hit on the 5:th tick (second tick with a dot in it)
- If you hit "Play" you will basically hear the girl go
"Are You- Are you Ready""
- Now right-click on the second beat you just created (the one in position
5)
- Turn OFF "Trig Sample", set it to play "Backwards,
Start Here". Hit OK
- Listen to the result - you will hear the girl go "Are YouRouY erA"
- Now again right-click the second beat, and set glide to 0.85.
- Due to the fact that LDB interprets backwards play mode as a negative
frequency, you will hear the "Are You R" forwards, then
slow down to a halt, start to go backwards..... just like if you were scratching
on a turntable.
- Now add several more beats in the position directly following the second
one you just created, i.e. from position 6 and onwards. Try a few different
frequencies (you know you can enter musical notes by using the computer
keyboard, right?).
- Go to each beat:
- ...for the 6:th, just click "Trig Sample" to OFF, add some
glide (0.4 or so)
- ...for the 7:th, click "Trig Sample" to OFF
AND set it to "Backwards, Start Here", and add some glide.
(0.3 - 0.6 or so, be creative, use some different values)
- ...for the 8:th, do as for the 6:th
- ...for the 9:th do as for the 7:th
- ...e.t.c....
- When done, you should have some scracthing!
Enjoy your LDB Scratching!
