(the drum loop creator for Stomper and WAV sounds)
...is HERE NOW...
...albeit in a beta version!
What IS Little Drummer Boy?
"Little Drummer Boy", also known simply as "LDB" is a software to create drumloops. I must emphasize, that the goal of the software is to create drumloops. It is not a drummachine simulator, it is not a realtime program, and it does not have sync, MIDI support, or anything like that, nor is it intended to have.
You use it to combine WAV samples (stereo or mono, any sample rate) and Stomper sounds to a combined sample, with processing (distortion, decay, stereo spread, resonant filtering, with full parameteric morphing based on accent levels), pitching (with glide, so you can simulate 303 or other oldschool synth if you like), into a combination sample, intended to be used as a "drumloop" [which can contain a lot more than just drums, btw!].
To actually USE the samples made in LDB you should use other software (Cubase, CakeWalk, Making Waves, Rubber Duck) or hardware (your sampler, AWE-32, e.t.c), or whatever.
What is LDB NOT
- It's not realtime
- It doesn't sync (not intended to)
- It's not a commercial application. Dont expect commercial level "speed-of-development" or support. I write LDB code when I feel like it and have time. Dont come running "demanding" features, after all it's just a hobby hack...
- It is not FreeWare, it's ShareWare. It is functional in all aspects but one; you can't write your created loops as .WAV files, until you Register. Registration costs $16.50, which I think you can agree is a fair price. If you are so poor, that you do not own $16.50, contact me, zap@master-zap.com, and we can negotiate someting.
And since this is a beta there is a special price for it; just $12. What a bargain huh? And get this - regcodes for the beta will work in the final version too! So grab one now.....!
So what's missing?
- Complete Documentation. Version 0.90 has a pretty fair start of a manual but not more.... You'll have to figure everything out for yourself. But you are smart, right?
- Kill any remaining bugs.
- Real 32 Bit version (long filenames)
Other than that, it should whirl fine.
So what's in 0.90?
0.90b
- Better documentation!!
- Updated URL's in all links.
0.89b
- Bugfix: Should be able to load more types of WAV files (still not compressed ones, tho, but those with extra info in them). If you have 0.88 and have trouble loading some .WAV files, you can download only the DLL file
0.88b
Beyond that, some minor tweaks and enhancements.
Downloading LDB
Download Options |
Install type |
File size |
Description / Intended audience? |
LDB.EXE Full Install |
2 Mb |
Full installation with installation program. Takes care of the whole installation for you. This is the installtion most people should use. ONLY if you have problems with the installer not working, you should try one of the zip'ed distributions listed below.... |
LDBEXE.ZIP Update pack |
270 Kb |
Only the program files itself, in a ZIP archive. If you already have a version of LDB newer than version 0.7, you only need these files. Just unzip it to the directory where you have LDB installed, overwriting any existing files. |
LDBEXE.ZIP Zip pack |
1.2 Mb |
The full program (almost, some extra graphics and some sample loops are missing to cut it down to less than 1.4 Mb) as a .ZIP file. No installatoin program, just unzip the file, and to use it, run the program DRUMMER.EXE. ONLY try this kind of installation if you either need to squeeze it onto a diskette OR you have trouble with the installation program not working! Basically, try this only if you know what you are doing.... :-) |
DRUMDLL.DLL DLL Update |
64 Kb |
Just the WAV rendering DLL from version 0.90b. Only get this file if you have version 0.88b and want to update your program with the smallest possible download!! Replace the DRUMDLL.DLL in the LDB directory with this file! This fixes the bug with some WAV files not playing in LDB |
Micro-documentation
- Define a tracks sound by clicking one of the Sound Selection Buttons. This pops up a dialogbox where you select the soundfile to use (Stomper STP/STU or WAV file), as well as all the parameters for the sound in it's unaccenter and it's accented states.
- Enter beats by clicking in the grid. Shift-click adds an accented beat w. full accent. Right clicking a beat allows you to edit it in more detail.
- If you want to edit pitched instrument, the easiest way is to use the computer keyboard, which is laid out like a piano keyboard:
2 3 5 6 7 9 0
Hi Octave Q W E R T Y U I O P
S D G H J L Ö
Lo Octave Z X C V B N M , . -
- Each beat can have any accent level. The actual sound morphs between the settings for the unaccented beats to the settings for the accented beats, proportional to the accent level. Accent level 0 is 100% unaccented settings, 0% accented settings, accent level 1 is 0% unaccented and 100% accented, and accent level 0.7 is 30% unaccented settings and 70% accented....
- To graphical edit the accents, click the little special "accent editor" button at the far right.
- If you already have a drumloop and use that as a sound, several advanced "BPM matching modes" are available to autostretch the sound either to full length of the bar, or to match one BPM with another....
- Dont forget to check the brand new LOOP LIBRARY at www.Master-Zap.com/library
- ENJOY the program!
