OATMEAL BARS

Chewy rolled oatmeal bar cookies

If I had ever dreamed that my oldest son would grow up to be the moderator of mod.recipes, I might have taught him how to make these cookies when he was young. They were his favorite cookies.

Ingredients

(Serves 6 children)

220 g shortening
200 g brown sugar
190 g granulated sugar
4 eggs, beaten well
5 ml vanilla extract
150 g white flour, sifted
5 ml salt
5 ml baking soda
150 g quick-cooking oats
40 g chopped walnuts (optional)

Procedure

Preheat oven to 175C
Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs and vanilla. Beat well.
Sift flour, salt, and soda and add to creamed sugars. Add oatmeal and nuts, and mix well.
Spread evenly into a greased 33 x 22 x 4-cm baking pan. Bake at 175C for 20 minutes.
While still warm, cut into squares and remove from pan.

Difficulty: easy.
Time: 10 minutes preparation, 20 minutes baking.
Precision: Measure the ingredients.
