In the beginning, before any of the world as we know it existed, the spring Hvergelmir gave rise to eleven rivers known as the Elivagar. Over a long period of time, water from the Elivagar poured into the endless void called Ginnungagap. The water froze and formed vast sheets of ice in the void. On each end of Ginnungagap were the two opposites: ice and fire, Niflheim and Muspell. Muspell melted some of the ice created, and created a zone of meltwater amid the ice and snow. Here life began, and here started the chain of Gods known as the Norse Gods. The followers of the All-Father Odin and his sons and daughters were great seafarers, and explored all corners of the world in their famous longboats. The revered Erik the Stout sailed farther and wider than any other Viking, and came to an island southwest of Antharis. The Vikings named the island Hemgaard, and their home in Nanny is here today. Even though the Vikings of Hemgaard rarely use their longboats anymore, they are still great seafarers and they still call themselves "Vikings." The Vikings are a tribe, a family, and are therefore naturally very loyal to each other. When they stand united against an enemy, they are very hard to defeat. The Vikings all live together in a small village, which is where they perform their rites, meet and advance. |
