Göteborg was founded in 1632 by Swedish king Gustaf Adolf II, but both the military fortress Älvsborg and the older town Lödöse have been here for long times, where Göta Älv, flowing from Vänern, meets the ocean.
The two islands are Orust and Tjörn. They are part of southern Bohuslän.
