Strange mix of RPG and strategy. Originally to be titled Lord Of The Rings The Arcade Game, it was written by Mike Singleton (famous for The Lords of Midnight) for eight-bit computers and later converted to more modern machines, such as PC and Amiga. The basic game concept is roughly the same for all systems, but the latter range offers much improved graphics and many new features.
Some versions (in particular the Amiga version) are extremely bug-infested.
An MCGA version for MS-DOS have been released and was available for registered users of the EGA version.
A NES version seems to have been advertised, but was never released for reasons unknown.

Personal evaluation: Quite good but a bit too simple. The graphics are OK on the Amiga, even if they certainly do not capture my picture of Middle Earth.
The first two of these pictures are from the Amiga version (click on map to view with original resolution). The others are from the MS-DOS (EGA), MS-DOS (MCGA), ZX Spectrum and Spanish Amstrad CPC versions.
