I am sending you separately a copy of our coding standards and a description of what you have to do legally to contribute code to GNU. Please finish the X interface, as X is free software and GNU's windowing system. We aren't that interested in Sunview, because it's a proprietary, not-free system. thanx -len PS: By the way, what do you think of look-and-feel lawsuits? RMS: he's entered in volunteers. [This is a copy of a letter that I sent to tower@prep.ai.mit.edu. I realized that that was maybe not the best address so I send it now to gnu@prep also in the hope that it will reach the right people sooner.] Hi! I have written an Othello program with a number of features and I would like to donate it to the FSF. The program is almost ready for its first beta release and it beats all other programs I have had access to rather handily. It is by no means as strong in its field as GNU CHESS is, but on the other hand it is MUCH stronger than GNU GO. The program is written to be as portable as possible between different environments and so far there are interfaces to SUNVEW and a scrolling program for a dumb terminal. An interface for curses(3X) is being written and as soon as I am finished with the basic game, I will start on an interface to X Windows. If you are interested in this program, please send me an email and tell me what I have to do (signing papers and so on). I will continue to work on the program to make it stronger and more versatile, but I think it can only do good to share it as it is now and let people get the goodies as they arrive.
