Gap
In the beginning there were no rules, and thus no Gap.
Now the rules have changed, and the Gap has arrived.
The Rules
- The game is played by two players
- Both players throw one dart each to decide who starts. The
player closest to the middle starts. Each consecutive round is
started by the player not starting the previous round
- Each round is played with three darts. The starting throws the
first and third dart, the other player throws the second dart
- The first two darts thrown in a round defines the diameter of
the Gap
- If the first dart misses the board, or bounces, the round is
void
- If the second dart misses the board or bounces, the entire
board defines the Gap
- The black void outside the scoring area of the board is
considered part of the board.
- If the third dart is thrown into the gap, the player throwing
the dart scores the value of the board sector.
- The object of the game is to score 100 points or more
If you find a situation overlooked by these rules, please inform the
Gap-rule committee and it will be
solved promptly.
Hints on scoring
It might seem hard to decide whether the third dart is inside the Gap
or not... This is not the case
Simply get hold of anything with a 90 degree angle (shouldn't be to
hard, have a look in your wallet). Stick it between the first two
darts. If the third dart can be touched with the corner of the object,
the dart is inside the Gap, otherwise, it is not.
History
The game was invented in february 1997 by Jonas Högström and
codeveloped the 12th of march by Anders Ivner while the two merry lads
were having a few beers at "Flamman". The name of the game was the
hardest part, and many suggestions were made. Finaly the name "Gap"
was decided on since it gives a hint on what the game is about, and
also because it is a tribute to one of the best fantasy/SF writers
alive (Stephen Donaldson).
The Gap rules are maintained by Jonas Högström. Mail any
comments to jonne@pobox.com.
