An in-depth look at the classes on BurningMUD by Niobium
To begin, it should be noted that all classes have different strengths and abilities.
It may take time before you find a class that suits your tastes in what you would like
to have in a character. For example, some people find it boring to play spell casting
characters, while others find it redundant to play stabbers. To get a good feel for it,
you should personally try out a few different classes and combinations, but here is a
guide to the classes and combosof BurningMUD.
NOTE: When making a combo, the first class that you are is the one on the right.
For example, Fi / Ro.. <-- This means that the character was rogue first, then multied Fighter.
COMBOS AND SUITABLE RACES:
Fi / Fi - One of the most successful leading combos on Burning.
The pure fighter has more HPs then any other class, 5 attacks per round and a few
odd skills such as pummel and headbang and can attain very high damage roll and hitroll.
Also, has the best THAC0 of any classes. One major complaint is that they are boring to play.
Best Race: Troll for damage/hitpoints or good aligned dwarf for AC.
Masters of the class: Caesar, Totto.
Fi / Ro - Also one of the better leading combos on Burning.
One pleasant advantage of this combo is that you have a stab, which makes for a
more interesting character. This combo has plenty of hitpoints and a nice stab.
It is preferable to make your character rogue first and then multi to fighter,
it optimize a better stab. Another important detail: they get both dodge and parry.
Best Race:Orc because of its con and str, and unlike Troll there is no huge dex penalty
which will be useful for stab.
Masters of the class: Two, Twix.
Fi / Nb - Similar to the Fi / Ro in that it has good hitpoints and a stab (murder).
This combo is nice because you can select a wide range of equipment to use.
It is preferable to make your character nightblade first to optimize stab.
Best Race: Orc for hitpoints and strength, or drow for dexterity.
Masters of the class: Shary, Kalindra.
Ma / Fi - This is one of the more uncommon classes on Burning.
It has a decent amount of hitpoints as well as some nice mage spells. Very little mana.
At high levels it can be a good leader of small exp areas because rescues and bloodmirror
are a good combination.
Best Race: Troll is optimal for hitpoints and strength but has very little mana, if you wish to have
more mana you should either make a Fi / Ma or become a drow for intelligence.
Masters of the class: Yet to be mastered, but an example is Whiro.
Pr / Fi - Not a recommended class to try.
Lots of hps and some healing spells, but very few mana and very little use in groups or solo.
Best Race: Troll, dwarf or Orc.
Master of the Class: Vembi.
Wl / Fi - Another uncommon class but has been used successful in the past.
At level 50 this class can attain the best THAC0 of any other classes because of combat spell,
eq and natural thac0. Preferable to be Fighter first, then multi to warlock for more hitpoints.
Best Races: Troll, Orc or Dwarf.
Masters of the Class: Varn, Pardecilla, Zoreas.
Te / Fi - This is a very good leading class, but that is about all it is good for.
Damage is about average or lower, no stabbing abilities. But plenty of hitpoints and rescues
and is very good for leading against evil mobs because of templar half. Preferable to go
fighter and mutli templar to get more hp's.
Best Races: Dwarf.
Masters of the Class: Styxian, Saetor.
An / Fi - There are very few of these around.
It is an alright combo, with plenty of hitpoints, pets and the ability to use armor of thorns
while leading, tanking and rescuing which is nice. Very little damage or use in groups though.
Best Races: Troll or dwarf.
Masters of the Class: Naratoh.
Ro / Ro - This is a very useful combo.
The pure rogue is well known for there strong and damaging stab, fair amount of hitpoints
and peeking/tracking abilities which are invaluable in the well.
Best Races: Orc for damaging/hitpoints, good hobbit or half-elf for AC.
Masters of the Class: Ashes, Scream, Riue.
Ro / Nb - This is a very uncommon combo as well.
It is not a very useful one since rogue and nightblade are so similar that it does not optimize
or hone in on any particular talent. It has murder and stab which can be fun for choice,
but is not very useful.
Best Races: Orc for strength and hitpoints, drow for dexterity and intelligence for nightblade side.
Masters of the Class: Drage.
Ma / Ro - This is a very nice combo. Good stab and spells.
It is very nice for soloing with the rogue stab, sneak and the mage blood mirror and armor/blur
spell. Although one weakness is this class has few hp's.
Best Races: Orc or Troll (evil) for damage/hitpoints or half-elf neutral for AC.
Masters of the Class: Girle, Ramu.
Pr / Ro - Although it used to be one of the best solo classes before the implementation of warlock,
nightblade, templar and animist it is now thought of as a semi-useless class. It can solo alright,
with heals and stab but is not very useful in a group.
Best Races: Dwarf, Orc or Elf. Depending on whether you want AC or Strength/Con.
Masters of the Class: Vogon, Derfian.
Wl / Ro - This is possibly one of the nicest damaging classes on the mud. Nice stab, good spells like combat,
manashield, and damaging spells and enough hitpoints to live.
This is a highly recommended class.
Best Races: Half-elf for AC and Orc for damage/health.
Masters of the Class: Melissa, Oi, Brutus.
Te / Ro - Not much use in groups but is an alright solo character. It can be used well against evil mobs because
of the templar side.
Best Races: Hobbit for soloing because of AC.
Masters of the Class: Ranarok.
An / Ro - This is a fairly good combination class. Can use pets as tank and stab from behind,
so is a good soloing unit. But also is useful in groups because of nice stab and decent spells.
Good hitpoints as well.
Best Races: Hobbit or elf for AC, Orc for damage/health.
Masters of the Class: Legolas.
Nb / Nb - Despite common myth that this class is not good, it is quite the opposite. This class has the potential
to be the best damaging class. Although low level nightblades may suffer from lack of hitpoints, little
damaging stab and other such problems, once this class is 60+ it will become one of the most useful
damaging classes. Not only can it be the most damaging, but it is quite a good soloing class with spells
such as Shadow Form, armor, blur, Attack and lifeblood. This class is very diverse and very useful.
Murder and assassinate also make the class interesting and fun to play.
Very useful in exp groups and level 15 well groups. Not the best for PGs.
Best Races: Either Human or Drow. The more dexterity the better.
Masters of the Class: Amida, Durandal and Kelenec.
Ma / Nb - This class is a useful solo class but has very few hitpoints. It has decent murder capabilities and some
mage spells. Also like the pure nightblade, is very level dependent. Higher levels are very important
for this class.
Best Races: Drow, or human.
Masters of the Class: Grayle.
Pr / Nb - Very uncommon class. Good for solo with pets, but very useless in groups.
Best Races: Drow or human.
Masters of the Class: Nightfall.
Wl / Nb - This is without a doubt been proven to be one of the best damaging combos and most well-rounded combos
of all the classes. It has good spells which go together well with the nightblade side, using murder.
Arguably, this class is overpowered :P
Best Races: Drow, Orc or Human.
Masters of the Class: Morby, Haze, Bobo.
Ma / Ma - The pure magician is a very useful character when it comes to powergroups (PGs).
This character has VERY few hitpoints and can do little damage with attacks, but has some of
the most powerful spells that can damage mobs very well. Also has contingency to save the life
of the poor caster when he/she runs low on hp's, bloodmirror to reflect damage of mobs of equal
or lower level and vampiric mist to steal the life from other mobs. Nice class.
Best Races: Drow or Gnome for mana, Half-Orc to have better hitpoints.
Masters of the Class: Puff, Bohemus, Woodiz, Reborn.
Ma / Pr - This is a very nice combo. It is well rounded in that it can solo, join groups and be useful
and can do fun little things like charmies and pets. It has the abilities to do good damage
and has more hitpoints then the Pr / Ma combo.
Best Races: Neutral Dwarf is a very good one for this. Also Troll Evil will work for more damaging abilities.
Masters of the Class: Lina, Candyman.
Pr / Ma - Like the Ma / Pr, this is a very nice combo. It has fewer hps but more mana.
Best Races: Half-Orc for hitpoints or drow or elf for mana.
Masters of the Class: Gwenneth, Cindy.
Ma / Wl - This is a good combo with lots of mana and LOTS of spells. It is preferable to be warlock first
then multi mage, but it depends on whether you want hitpoints or mana. This class is useful for
PGs because it has a good source of spells, also has some lifesaving spells like contingency.
Bloodmirror and manashield work very nicely together while soloing.
Best Races: Orc for strength/con, Drow or Gnome for mana.
Masters of the Class: Nosnah, Soul.
Ma / Te - This class is very good for solo, especially against evil mobs because of the templar side.
It can attain a good armor class, good spells for damaging and enough hitpoints to play freely.
The class is also good for PGs and level 20 well groups.
Best Races: Human is probably the most well rounded race for this class.
Masters of the Class: Sadim.
Ma / An - Well, if you ask Maan it is underpowered. But the idea of bloodmirror and armor of thorns is fun,
and it can do alright damage in exp groups. Very few hps though, but since animist half can play
with pets it is alright. Best to be animist first because you get more hps.
Best Races: Elf for mana, half orc for hitpoints.
Masters of the Class: Lacheln and
Maan (I miss you.)
Pr / Pr - Most will argue that it is a very boring class. You require a script if you are to be of any use
to a group. But, you are the most essential part of any exp, well or PG group. Also, this is a
good class to create a first character with since any group will take you. Pure priest also has
some pets which are good at high levels.
Best Races: Elf for mana, or if you wish to be different try dwarf or troll. But definitely do not try drow,
for it is completely useless.
Masters of the Class: Zzz, Delg, Moe, Aldron, Josh.
Wl / Pr - This is an interesting class. Can do very little damage in groups and cannot solo very well, but
is extremely good in the arena. The only method of soloing is by pets, which are provided from
the priest half of the combo.
Best Races: Arguably troll or human.
Masters of the Class: Graht.
Pr / Te - Dont even get me started on this class. Completely useless. Many have tried to make it a class of
use (cough, Oyun) but they have failed. The two classes (priest and templar) are just too similar
and together they are just as good as a single classed character. Not good at all.
Best Races: Who cares, youll suck anyways.
Masters of the Class: Well.. none. Oyun I guess
An / Pr - This is a very useless class in groups, but it has amazing solo capabilities with pets.
It can have up to 9 pets which is very useful. These combos are well known for there abilities to
solo deep into the well. Good class if you like grouping with pets and being a loner.
Best Races: Troll for hitpoints. Else elf, for mana.
Masters of the Class: Odil.
Wl / Wl - This class has recently undergone huge changes. It used to be that warlock was a supreme PG character
with triads. But now they have become more of a unique class, unto themselves, separate from mages.
Now they are the perfect battle mages. They have spells which enable them to hit extremely hard and
have many attacks per round, they have self-defence spells like manashield and some other cool trick
spells. These are a fun spell combo. Good mana and alright hitpoints with this class.
Best Races: Evil orc is nice for damaging and health. But Gnome or Drow is good for mana.
Masters of the Class: Macros, Orca, Clapiote.
Wl / Te - This class has been proven to be a good all round class. It has good hitpoints, good damage, good
mana and good eq. It is also a very good solo class and has the ability to solo big mobs since it
has healing spells, mana shield and templar abilities against evil.
Good all round class, fun to play.. sometimes boring in groups though, but again you can lead well with it :)
Best Races: Human.
Masters of the Class: Alkohol (sniff, I miss you too buddy), Silvertear.
Wl / An - This is a fairly uncommon class, and little is known about it. It has a good variety of spells and
is very good in the arena. It has the ability to solo with pets well because of animist side and
has good spells for groups.
Best Races: Human, Elf or Half-Orc.
Masters of the Class: Keso, Lodlaen.
Te / Te - For all of the classes without pets, this is the most useful soloing character. It has a lot of
hipoints, trueheal spell, and the ability to do more damage against evil not get hurt by them so
badly. It is a good leader class against evil areas and has rescues. This class is very good all
around and is good in the well, exp groups and PGs.
Best Races: Human.
Masters of the Class: Gabe, Gnoth.
An / An - This class is very well known for there pets. They can conjure the elements to assist them and
tank for them. They can solo very big mobs with these pets. Animists also have the ability to be
alright in groups, they can be useful in Pg, well and exp. They have COS too which is good utility
spell for groups.
Best Races: Half-orc for hitpoints, or human.. elf is good to for mana.
Masters of the Class: Krubba without a doubt.
Ro / Ma - This is a fairly uncommon class. It has worse stab and less hp then a Ma/Ro but more mana.
I would suggest starting as a Rogue instead.
Best Races: Human or Half-Elf.
Masters of the Class: Karafred
