Statistical data is used to select a fitting aspect ratio, and from the conceptual sketch we can then look for similar aircraft in a tex2html_wrap5 diagram, also based on statistical data. The actual sweep and thickness of the wings can be determined, since we know the operating mach number and what worked on other aircraft. Aspect ratio is also determined from statistics, in this case we use data from other jetfighters. This leads to the following initial data:

If the mission did not include a supercruise section, we could also have chosen a L/D ratio to get maximum range at cruise speed, but here we instead chose a a figure that makes the aircraft capable of travelling at M1.4 on dry power, i.e. an L/D around 2 at that speed.
