Sonata a 5 / Battallia ex C by Paul Hainlein is a sonata for 2 violins, 2 viola (da gamba or not?), trombett (some kind of brass wind, perhaps trombone?) in unison with second viola, violon(e) and organ. The creation date is unknown, but the only surviving copy was written by Gustaf Düben ca. 1667. This copy is now preserved at Uppsala University Library, who gratiously provided the copy I have used for this edition. The manuscript number is IMHS 4:1.
I have always tried to be as close to the original as possible. Editorial changes have been put above the staffs, or within parenthesis. Slashed figures in the continuo have been replaced with their flat/natural or sharp equivalents. All accidentals have been converted to modern standard. Mezzo soprano clef in the first viola part is printed as alto clef.
