The Work
This is a collection of 50 dances by Johann Rosenmüller for 2 treble
instruments (for example violins or cornettos), one bass (viola da
gamba, cello or trombone) and basso continuo for organ. This
collection, Paduanen, Alemanden, Couranten, Balletten,
Sarabanden were printed in Leipzig in 1645 and was the first music
by Rosenmüller to appear in print. The source used are preserved in Landsbiblioteket in
Växjö, who has gratiously provided all copies needed for this
work.
This Edition
I have always tried to be as close to the original as
possible. Editorial changes have been put above the staffs, or within
parenthesis. Slashed figures in the continuo have been replaced with
their flat/natural or sharp equivalents. All accidentals have been converted to modern
standard.
