Nido de Condores, 5400m
Lat 32.38.16
Long 70.01.79
Info
Nido is a big flat plateau. There are no facilities around, except for a
"puddle" which might provide liquid water depending on the temperatures
(late afternoons is your best shot). from here you have a clear view of
the way to Berlin Huts (you can't actually see Berlin huts, but all of
the way there. You can also see the entrance to the canaleta, and what
kind of wheather you can expect on the top. The problem is just that it
changes very rapidly.
Personal experience
We had our coldest night here in Nido, -15C, but still there was liquid
water on the bottom of the "puddle". Here we made the almost fatal
descision to alter the plan for the summit attempt [read about all in
the expedition-report]. "Always" stick to your original plans, and
never change it when you are tired, cold or hungry!
