These are all the important changes that were made to the Tolkien computer
games pages until November 9, 1998. For changes after that date, please see
the page with recent changes.
All dates are in YY-MM-DD form.
- 98-11-09: A new MUD, Isildur's Bane,
added; however, word also reaches me that the MUD The
One Ring has closed down.
- 98-11-06: Added links to scans of ads for The
Lord of the Rings, Vol. I and Riders
of Rohan.
- 98-10-09: Found a later version of The
Tolkien Affair.
- 98-09-22: Added a link to the new official home page of Sierra's
Middle-earth.
- 98-09-17: Put up a screen-shot for The
Trilogy.
- 98-09-14: Added a new freeware game: The
Trilogy.
- 98-08-27: Updated the address of Mozart
MUD.
- 98-08-26: Updated information about Civilization
II scenarios, including adding a new one: Gondor.
- 98-08-25: Minor updates to Bryce Fitzsimon's The
Hobbit.
- 98-08-19: Some links added to Middle-earth.
- 98-07-17: New cover scan for The
Fellowship of the Ring Software Adventure and new beta version of
Bryce Fitzsimon's The Hobbit.
- 98-07-15: New scenario for Mac version of Warlords
II called Silmarillion.
- 98-05-29: Four new games: Manic
Miner: The Hobbit, Belegost,
The Hobbit and (most notably) the upcoming
Middle-earth on-line game
from Sierra On-line; updated The Lord of the
Rings, Journey to Rivendell with new information.
- 98-05-18: Added a new Heroes of Might
and Magic II scenario called Hobbit;
added links to reviews of a couple scenarios already on the page and added
a new Warlords II Deluxe scenario:
Silmaril.
- 98-04-17: The author of The Lord
of the Rings, Journey to Rivendell was not, as previously noted, John
Stevens, but Mark Lesser; added a new Heroes
of Might and Magic II scenario called Tolkien
Tribute and added two Civilization II
scenarios titled Tolkien and
The War of the Ring.
- 98-04-12: Updated Mirkwood
area information.
- 98-04-03: Added information about the theme music of the computer
game version of The Lord of the Rings, Vol.
I.
- 98-03-26: Added and changed some information about Angband;
changed link to new version of the Civilization
II scenario Dagor Bragollach;
Shadowfax is now downloadable and
added three new MUDs: The Burning Eye,
The One Ring and The
Shadow of Mordor.
- 98-02-27: Information about the title originally planned for War
in Middle Earth.
- 98-01-08: Added a link to the Apple II version of The
Fellowship of the Ring Software Adventure.
- 97-12-04: New version of the Civilization II scenario Dagor
Bragollach.
- 97-11-18: Updated download links for C64 versions of The
Boggit, The Hobbit, Lord

- 97-10-27: Apparently, all versions of War
in Middle Earth were translated into Spanish and there was an unreleased
NES version planned for the same game.
- 97-10-12: Updated Kingdom O' Magic
and Utumno; added two Warcraft
II scenarios: The Lord of
the Rings and RingWar;
added one Civilization II scenario: Señor
de los Anillos and updated information for the MUDs MUME
and Beleriand.
- 97-10-02: Added a link to War in Middle
Earth and updated information for Return
of the Shadow, or Arda, the Fourth Age, The
Lord of the Rings, Journey to Rivendell, An
Everyday Tale of a Seeker of Gold, Fuddo
and Slam and Endorian Empires.
- 97-09-30: Added two new games, Lord
of the Rings: The Duel and Not Lord
of the Rings and one new collection, Hairy
Toes.
- 97-09-08: Added a new game, Ringmaster.
- 97-09-05: New version of the Civilization
II scenario Dagor Bragollach.
- 97-08-15: After a far too long period of neglect, I have made the
first major clean-up of these pages since their official opening. Thanks to
all of you who kept sending corrections even when nothing seemed to happen.
A great many changes have been made, among which some of the more important
are:
- 97-01-27: Updated the links of The Hobbit, Middle-earth Play-By-Mail, Shadowfax,
Bored of the Rings, The Boggit and Tolkien scenario for Warlords
II Deluxe.
- 97-01-23: Some new information about the Amiga version of The
Lord of the Rings, Vol. II: The Two Towers; made a link to one of
the authors of that game and made a link to the music from The
Hobbit Software Adventure.
- 97-01-13: Added a bunch of scenarios for strategy game Warcraft
II.
- 97-01-08: The Civilization II scenario Dagor Bragollach: Battle of Sudden Flame
is now up to version 3.0; cover scans added to Shadows
of Mordor Software Adventure and Crack of Doom Software Adventure.
- 96-12-20: Official Delta 4 links added to Bored of the Rings and The
Boggit.
- 96-12-17: Der kleine Hobbit
can now be downloaded and added two screen shots for Shadows
of Mordor.
- 96-12-12: Added another MUD: Sundered Realms; updated the links
to the authors of Hobbit - The True Story and updated
the information about the MUDs Lands of Arda and Night's Keep.
- 96-12-11: Beleriand is
now open to the public.
- 96-12-01: Found out that The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings: Game One was
also released for Dragon and updated links for Shadows
of Mordor, Crack of Doom Software
Adventure and The Boggit.
- 96-11-15: Removed Gandalf the Sorcerer, since it turned out
to actually be titled Gandolf the Sorcerer and not based on Tolkien
at all.
- 96-11-13: More download links from The Boggit.
- 96-11-05: New Warlords II Deluxe scenario: The Scouring of the Shire.
- 96-10-22: Download link to BBC versions of The Hobbit.
- 96-10-21: Bored of the Rings
was also released for BBC.
- 96-10-16: Revived the Beleriand entry.

- 96-08-13: Finally got around to scanning some covers. So far I have
added for Lord of the Rings: Game One,
The Hobbit, The
Jewels of Darkness, The Lord of the
Rings, Vol. I, The Lord of the Rings,
Vol. II: The Two Towers, Shadowfax, Shadows of Mordor, The Tolkien Trilogy and War
in Middle Earth; many links have also been updated from those games
and The Hobbit has gone through a major
update with much new information; Reactor MUD now has its correct type
definition and updated the information for The
Lord of the Rings, Vol. III.
- 96-08-02: Two more games (or rather add-ons to existing games): Dagor
Bragollach which is a scenario for Civilization II and a Mah
Jongg tile set called Lord of the Rings and added information
about the VGA/MCGA version of War in Middle Earth.
- 96-07-29: Updated the entry for Moria and added a new game, Reactor
MUD.
- 96-07-17: Updated information about the never-released The
Lord of the Rings, Journey to Rivendell.
- 96-07-14: New information about current maintainer and official WWW
page for The Dungeons of Moria; Elendor
Refugee MUX has been closed for good; added information about an unofficial
MVS version of The Hobbit and put up
another screen shot for that same game.
- 96-06-24: Updated Xconq (Middle Earth).
- 96-06-18: Added Endorian Empires;
removed Smaugs Lair; updated the links of Viking
MUD and added one link to Genesis.
- 96-06-13: Corrected the distributor of The Tolkien Trilogy.
- 96-06-11: Several new screen-shots for War in Middle Earth; updated links from
the Interplay games The Lord of the Rings, Vol. I and The
Lord of the Rings, Vol. II: The Two Towers, including links to demo
versions and a solution for Vol. I Super NES version, and added a link to
the French version of CHAOS Productions' Seigneur de la Bague vol. 1.
- 96-06-06: Lord of the Rings:
Game One was also released for Amstrad PCW; updated links and version
info for MUME.
- 96-06-04: Corrected the link to The Tolkien Affair; added the French
title of Lord of the Rings vol. 1 and
updated NannyMUD.
- 96-06-03: Added much information about Middle-earth Play-By-Mail versions
in other languages than English, including a new Dutch version in the works.
- 96-05-28: Linked to a review of Conquest of M.E. and added two new games
from CHAOS Productions: Lord of the Rings vol. 1 and Lord
of the Rings vol. 2.
- 96-05-24: Put a link to Beam Software and a picture of Philip Mitchell
from The Hobbit and other games; added
two more Warlords II Deluxe scenarios: Gondor

- 96-04-02: Removed Beleriand, on request of its management;
added official WWW site for Middle-earth Play-By-Mail and added
several Warlords II scenarios.
- 96-03-25: Added two MUDs, Beleriand and Lands of Arda and removed Cracks
of Doom (not Crack of Doom Software Adventure,
mind you), which is the first game to have been removed since the official
opening of the pages.
- 96-03-17: A minor change to Angmar's setting; added the Elendor
Refugee MUX and added screen shots to Bulbo and the Lizard-king and Dungeon
Adventure.
- 96-03-12: Added the MUD Angmar; added links to emulator versions
of Assault on Dolni Keep and added
a link to a review of The Hobbit.
- 96-03-07: Corrected a link to Retarded Creatures and Caverns'
solution and added a MUD link to Diku MUD.
- 96-03-06: Added links to The MUD Connector entries for Aurora,
Carrion Fields, Eodon, Genesis, Mirkwood, Mozart MUD, MUME, NannyMUD, RealmsMUD and The Two Towers.
- 96-02-22: Minor update to MEFA Mush; added information about
a CD-ROM demo version of The Lord of the Rings, Vol. I and added
information about on-line purchasing of that game and The
Lord of the Rings, Vol. II: The Two Towers.
- 96-02-19: Added a new link to The Pits of Angband; info about The
Hobbit's position in Sinclair User's Spectrum Classics; added a new
game (or at least an area for a type of game), Diku MUD (The Shire); added author and
year information to quiz and, for uniformity's sake, changed the title
of that game to quiz (mearth) and that of Tolkien's
Middle Earth to Xconq (Middle Earth); corrected the
link to Genesis' home page and corrected
the publisher/producer information for Gandalf the Sorcerer.
- 96-01-30: Updated the address for Mozart MUD; added a new MUD, Carrion
Fields; added some info for Bulbo and
the Lizard King and changed much of the information for Sagan
om ringen.
- 96-01-14: Added a new game for the North Star Horizon, Middle
Earth; The Middle-Earth Trilogy
was also called Colossal Trilogy; added links for a solution to Colossal
Adventure and a review of Dungeon Adventure; new version of
The Pits of Angband along with link
to a new official Web page and some other information; also removed the apparently
non-working play-the-game links from that game and The
Dungeons of Moria; added links to the most recent versions of all
the Eamon games; Abyss is back up; added a new MUD,
Eodon; made some changes to The
Lord of the Rings MUSH and added its planned successor, The
Lord of the Rings MUSH II.
- 95-12-20: Yet another link from The Lord of the Rings, Vol. I; changed
the title (and many other facts) of An Everyday Tale of a Seeker of Gold
to The Seeker of Lost Gold and added
two successors to that game: Bulbo and the Lizard King and Retarded
Creatures and Caverns.
- 95-12-18: New link from The Lord of
the Rings, Vol. I.
- 95-12-15: Changed author information and some links for The
Pits of Angband; added a link to a solution of Lord of the Rings: Game One;
minor changes to Middle-earth: The Riddles; Emulate!
links updated from Shadows of Mordor and
War in Middle Earth and added links to
two of the companies that made Riders of Rohan.
- 95-12-05: Minor changes to the Interplay games The Lord of the Rings, Vol. I, The
Lord of the Rings, Vol. III and The Lord of the Rings & The Two Towers; corrected a link to a solution
for The Hobbit; moved the solutions
link from The Jewels of Darkness to the individual
games; added a cheats link for Lord of the Rings: Game One
and a hints link for Shadows of Mordor;
added another link to The Pits of Angband and the real
name of the author of Tolkien Trivia.
- 95-11-24: Added a new game, Middle-earth: The Riddles; again
changed the Spectrum Games Database entry for The Hobbit; added a link to one of
the servers for MUME.
- 95-11-20: Tolkien Trilogy's
release year confirmed; screen shots added for Crack
of Doom Software Adventure and The Ring of Doom, links to solutions
for The Jewels of Darkness games, The Hobbit and The Boggit.
- 95-11-08: A new Net resource added to The Boggit; deleted Goblins Dungeon
solution link and changed Spectrum Games Database link from The
Hobbit; added info about the languages and various licensees for Middle-Earth
Play-By-Mail and (finally) added information about the new version
of Tolkien's Middle Earth.
- 95-11-01: The grand official opening of the pages. Welcome!
