Everybody mentions either Pygmalion or Souvlaki as the best thing Slowdive ever made. But no one mentions "Just for a day". To me this is the ideal mix of sounds (which were more important in the early days) and song (which dominates later). And what is more particular, this album contains their best song ever "Primal". Although I agree that Some Velvet Morning is wonderful as well. But that discussion was closed, I suppose. Hi...Unfortunately the Sound-L list isn't around anymore. I started and ran the Sound-L list. I had to take it down because I was running it from the place that I worked, and I got a new job. I would *LOVE* to start that list up again, but my home service provider doesn't offer any kind of listserv. If anyone has access to a listserv, please let me know!!!!! For those of you wondering...the Sound-L list was a mailing list (like this one) that was for the discussion of guitar/studio effects, and general sound manipulation. Thanks for listening! -Mitch mitch@tickets.stanford.edu ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 22 Dec 1997 12:36:09 -0500 (EST) From: modulation Subject: Re: The Sound-L mailing list (was Re: Jazz vs. Jag) > Hi...Unfortunately the Sound-L list isn't around anymore. I need to repurchase all of the Slowdive catalogue-the 3 albums and all of the EPs. This material was stolen from me recently and to my dismay I've discovered all of the albums except for the Creation pressing of 'Just For A Day' have been deleted. If anyone finds any EPs or LPs at their local record store, please email me! I'd be glad to pay for the costs of the dics, postage & a little extra. I would also be more than happy to trade a few live tapes ( http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Studio/1607/bootlist.html ) cheers chris ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Dec 1997 19:53:11 -0500 From: eddiej7@juno.com (ladies and gentleman we are floating in space) Subject: Unidentified subject! Has anyone ever considered trying to buy the USA rights to albums like Against Perfection and Fake from SBK Records? I wonder if it's even possible, and how much it'd be. I sent the above message to the Adorable list. It's generated a bit of discussion, and it is relevant to Slowdive. It's tough to find Just For A Day and Souvlaki. Rather discouraging when you introduce a friend to them, but he can't buy them. It'd be pretty darn neat to buy the USA album rights from SBK. they aren't making any money from the albums now, so if someone approached them for the rights, one would think they'd be reasonable... I think it might be worth exploring. I know a few connections in the record industry. I'll ask around and see what I can find out. Travis ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.97 #13 ********************************
