Hi The only prob I could se is that did'nt SBK opt out of the deals with creation and would'nt creation own the rights and permision would have to be sought from creation (and Sony). And I don't think they are that willing to give them up as the cost of recording ect would come into it(remember MBV costs).I don't want to rain on anyones Parade but it would be nice for the fans to control the music so there would be enough to go around. And if you have success I would be interested in know the cost for other creation bands that have been cast aside (remember the Telescopes). You can usually find both of them at Media Play or any other major entertainment outlet. It's the other stuff that's very scarce. But no one mentions "Just for a day". To me this is the ideal mix of sounds (which were more important in the early days) and song (which dominates later). And what is more particular, this album contains their best song ever "Primal". [snip] Kurt ======== end quoted post ========= I have all of slowdive's releases and having listened to all of them for about 3 years now, I have to agree - Just For A Day is my favorite disc, and Primal is my favorite track. It's odd that I didn't come to this conclusion until just a few weeks ago, mostly because I had shelved Just For A Day for a very long time. Just put it on, skip to the last two minutes of Primal and turn it up... you'll be converted too! And speaking of bands that "evolve", I was kicked off the RIDE mailinglist because of my extreme disagreement with those who joined the list (and hence listened to RIDE) because they liked Carnival Of Light / Tarantula. It was really annoying - they were debating what the list t-shirt should be and it was obvious that the fans of Nowhere were far more intellectually capable than the C.O.L. fans... ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Dec 1997 20:04:12 -0500 From: eddiej7@juno.com (ladies and gentleman we are floating in space) Subject: Re: Primal is king > And speaking of bands that "evolve", I was kicked off the RIDE mailinglist > because of my extreme disagreement with those who joined the list (and hence > listened to RIDE) because they liked Carnival Of Light / Tarantula. Ahem, speaking as the founder and now co-owner of Vapour Trail, the Ride email list, I don't believe anyone has ever been kicked off. I'm fairly certain though, that you're talking about the time when I ran the list *manually* by myself, because i don't recall hearing from you after that. It is likely, that if you were indeed kicked off the list, that i accidentally deleted you. I know i accidentally deleted at least one person. However, considering your above statement, i can't say i'm all that sorry that it happened. Can't take an opinion, or what??? No, actually that's not it. You see, this fellow, Agent Cooper used to deliberately try to incite flame wars on our list. Looking back on it, i should've kicked him off. I spent approximately 30-45 minutes PER DAY running that list in the beginning, and, pardon me, i didn't want to spend my time on running extra posts because someone was just making an ass of themself with rude comments. Taking an opinion is much different when it is MY time that is being wastefully and frequently spent on it... That said, i didn't purposefully kick him off the list. But yes, i'm glad it happened. It saved me plenty of work from his attempts at initiating flame wars. and besides his last statement "anyone who likes Carnival of Light more than Nowhere has no brain" (my words, not his) is just dumb. Nowhere is my favorite album of all time. and Carnival of Light is my second favorite Ride album. Yes but the first guy wasn't only expressing his opinion but bashing others who happened to have a different opinion from his. I like early Ride as much as anyone but insulting people's intelligence and baiting for flames is another thing The Ride list has been filled lately with a lot of empty baiting and sniping back and forth so I don't blame the listowner ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 31 Dec 1997 11:33:18 -0800 (PST) From: midglider Subject: Re: Primal is king My 2Cents, Primal is a supremely beautiful song. Especially the cello in the backgroung melting into the guitars. For me, its hard to say which Slowdive album is the best since they are one the few bands to push a certain vision further with each album. Just for a Day has elements of classic shoegazer moves (the Ride-esque "ahhhhs" vocals on brighter, the plodding Disintegration era cure arrangements on Spanish Air etc...) They went for a darker, more velvety sound on some Blue Day tracks and fleshed out those even further on Souvlaki, only to do a "retro-minimalist" ambient album on Pygmalion. In the end, each record stands on its own and even today has a timeless quality. Too bad few bands today try anymore. Anyways, Happy New Years to all you shoegazers out there... ---Agent Cooper wrote: > > ========= begin quoted post ========== > > Subject: Just for a day > From: "Kurt.Verweire" > > [snip] > > Everybody mentions either Pygmalion or Souvlaki as the best thing > Slowdive ever made.
