This is exactly what happened when the Galaxie 500 box was coming out. For a while it was all unconfirmed rumor, then tentative maybes from ryko, then a definite yes, but no firm release date, and then the box came out. I also emailed Ryko. Everyone on the list should email them (info@rykodisc.com). The more Ryko hears about it, the more likely they will go through with it (if the decision hasn't been made yet). I think they were pleasantly surprised by the demand for the Galaxie 500 box (I know I was), so maybe Slowdive has a good chance. But I wonder why it would be so "hush-hush" not that Slowie are the most unpopular band but I still wouldn't call their stateside notoriety popular enough to warrant this type of secrecy. If it indeed is true, which I plan to ask Rhino being that they're in town, then I'd have my copy ordered days in adavance; as I'm sure we all would (that goes without saying!). ;) >Ps Rachel is a freakin goddess Absolutely! ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jan 1998 03:12:24 -0800 From: spaceagebachelorpad@usa.net (JJ Moreno) Subject: Re: stingyness and Rachel on this list >> Yeah, but who has all this stuff in the first place. > >I have this stuff. Indeed I would not, but the analogy you make between the last time this was brought up (where someone was selling CDs to make a profit) and this time where financial profit is either minimally or in no case involved(hopefully) is weak as it seems the circumstances or motive for the making of the cd are different. I hope this thing goes through, as I was indeed pleasantly surprised by the reaction from this list's members. If there's anyway I can help, such as by submitting a good copy of live stuff, I would happilly and willingly do. Could Ryko be in the early stages of negotiating something with Creation and Slowdive? Has this been confirmed by Ryko, Creation, or Slowdive/Mojave3, or is this just another public fantasy? It would make more *commercial* sense for Ryko to release a compilation CD of sorts -- which would not include material from any of the album releases. If you look at Slowdive's complete release catalogue, you'll notice that most of their best music was their EP releases. Using this frame of mind, I could see Ryko wanting to release a compilation consisting of "Blue Day" + certain EP tracks + unreleased tracks of interesting value (to the producer, that is) including some live and alternate tracks -- basically, whatever they could squeeze onto a single 74-to-77 minute CD. If a box set was to somehow miraculously be released by Ryko, it would be even more attractive if it had an exclusive CD with some of the previously unreleased studio tracks and live tracks that people talk about on this list frequently. I recently bought a CD released from Ryko of a never-before-released and presumably long lost album recorded more than 20 years ago by Eno + Cluster + Neu called Harmonia 76 -- "Tracks & Traces." So, Ryko can indeed perform miracles! -Gary H- ghenders@gary-hendershot.com Houston, TX USA ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 17 Jan 1998 19:08:47 -0500 From: Justin_Bowers@BAYLOR.EDU Subject: 7% solution On Thu, 15 Jan 1998 23:45:30 -0800 avalyn@lysator.liu.se wrote: > PS Anyone here heard of 7% Solution? As usual (on this list) listie recommendations are worth checking out, so I ran a web search for the band, hoping to find some sound files somewhere, or at least a homepage, but no. No sound files and no homepage. I did find a review (sort of) from a Texas paper: "7% Solution The Austin band's first CD, "All About Satellites and Spaceships," includes an extra bonus disc with the admonition, "please give this to a friend." Someone did (hello, Michelle Ferguson!), and now it's in this column. While 7% Solution's shoegazing tendencies are pretty strong (as Julian Cope says, "spacerock with me!"), and the record is pretty long, "All About Satellites and Spaceships" has both the songs and sonic fireworks to pull off the trippy/poppy/atmospheric thing." Anyone have a sound file or a related URL? //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 18 Jan 1998 05:28:26 +0100 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Re: 7% solution At 19:08 1998-01-17 -0500, Justin_Bowers@BAYLOR.EDU wrote: > 7% Solution are genius!!!
