I believe I've been hearing Junior Varsity on the radio occasionally as of late. Are they a "girl band" and like maybe really young? ...like maybe Junior High? Maybe I was hearing someone else, but I think the one song I've heard a few times was something about "having a real big party tonight." Holy Toledo, whatever in the heck I was hearing, it was really cute! -Gary H- ghenders@gary-hendershot.com Houston, TX USA ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jan 1998 06:34:42 -0800 From: "Milan B." Subject: Ambient Regarding all those bands being listed as ambient for Slowdive fans, it's hard for me to get into a lot of it. Slowdive had nice ambience but even better songwriting to go along with it. Some of the stuff on that list is ambience for the sake of ambience. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jan 1998 11:01:14 -0500 (EST) From: butterfly mcqueen Subject: Re: verve/nike > i find you comment about the verve sucking to be unfounded oh, please. it's as subjective an opinion as can be. now if i said that the verve sold out, or that they shouldn't change, that would be a different story. but *my opinion* is that their songs are pretty weak, AND it so happens that their present sound doesn't interest me. at all. > im glad slowdive broke up that way you can say mojave 3 sucks because it isnt > spaey tripped out bliss really, get over it. mojave 3 are fucking great! jumping to conclusions now, aren't you? ; ed ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jan 1998 11:07:30 -0500 (EST) From: butterfly mcqueen Subject: RE: Flowchart /Darla Releases/Recommendations oh, whoops. you see, that's why the darla_bliss-out_solo_tweepop_drum_'n_bass_ artist junior varsity is in the process of a name change (now he's junior varsity km, km being his initials). but some of his stuff can indeed be called "cute" -- but it'll make you want to break out your mad crazy steps as well. yessiree, mad crazy steps, ; ed At 07:27 AM 1/29/98 -0600, you wrote: > Thanks for the updated Darla info. Just thought you'd all be interested to know that I have processed and posted an MP3 (44.1 kHz, 128 kbits/sec, 16 bit, stereo) of slowdive's cover of "Golden Hair" as it appears on Holding Our Breath EP. (It's just under 4MB.) If I don't get any complaints from Rachel or Creation, I may rotate more rare songs onto my site. The URL is http://www.flash.net/~agentc and yes, that's my car... I just wanted to inform anyone who might care about my new band. for those who don't know i am mike of _fourhead_ (track on lil darla v.8 etc..) i have shifted directions slightly. i am now working with a girl named daniella. the band is called _monorail_. we play very dreamy shoegazer friendly ambient-drum n bass. (guitars, not synths). we have a track on the forthcoming CD compilation "solutions and remidies" on the illustrious Clairecords label. available soon from claire de leon mailorder.. as well as the all the usual places. thanks, mike btw. fourhead is not dead.. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 29 Jan 1998 14:50:33 -0500 (EST) From: mike p Subject: Re: VW ... commercials ... miscellany > speaking of the Pale Saints... Has anyone heard of a new release? Or > Spoonfed hybrid? i have the spoonfed hybrid "scary verlain" 7". not too good. i heard the LP last night oddly enough. some of it is very, very good. some of it is plain weird.. typical ian masters great complicated songwriting, interesting arrangements.. one song has heavy-ish guitars and record scratching ??? id still give it a whirl. the first track on the LP and the bonus 7" is the best stuff. mike ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.98 #17 ********************************
