Sheesh - I can't believe there are any left - you people need to get it while the gettin's good! It'll be the best $5 you'll spend this month! > As for Kasperhauser, they are essentially the same band without the > rhythm section. They now claim to be "heavier" and more "rockin'." Sure. Heh, I'm with ya Andy. It definitely is more like Swervedriver now (who in my opinion went to crap after Mezcal Head) - although I won't argue that Kasperhauser isn't better than mainstream garbage, it certainly doesn't hold a candle to Planet, I'm Gone. And since when did "heavier" and "rockin'" become synonymous with "better"? P.I.G. ruled. > Thanks for all the kind words about my old band. Say, there are other Austinites on this list... seems like the closest band to "shoegazing" we have is 7% Solution and other psychedelic rock types. I have a drum set, so how's 'bout you send me an e-mail telling me you're ready to start a real shoegazing group in Austin? Subvert the white-boy blues culture! (Of course, I don't have a place to practice... but I can lug my kit around in my hatchback...) P.S. - I'm putting up "So Tired" (the first b-side from Outside Your Room) on my site tonight. Get it tomorrow. http://www.flash.net/~agentc/slowdive.html ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 10:16:27 -0500 (EST) From: Claire De Leon! I think that album is totally brilliant! Except maybe for most of the ambient pieces, which get on my nerves, but they have their own appeal too, I suppose. The *song* songs, are tremendous, IMO! Damn - if that's the case, _they_ were not kidding when I interviewed them back in.. umm, may 96! I asked them if the next album would be a "Mezcal Head" one (my least favourite - which I told them) or a "Raise", and they laught and said it would be a Mezcal Head one. I didn't believe them. I'll buy it anyway though. ;) //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 16:38:32 -0500 (EST) From: butterfly mcqueen Subject: Re: Blue shift signal (sic) >>I found the Blueshift signal waterside e.p. over the weekend and was >>a bit disappointed with it. I disagree - the demos are fantastic, but "Nearfield" is a letdown. Not at all the "they're so close to Slowdive you have to hear it!" I expected. And I heard Nearfield before the demos (thanks again Aaron!). But we've been through all this once before on the list... //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 03 Mar 1998 22:50:24 +0100 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Re: Swervies (was Blue shift signal) >> Anyone buy the new Swervedriver yet by the way? > > I got the promo for almost a year now, a nice girl in the US taped it > for me. ;-) Wonderful record, shame it's not released in Europe yet > (hell knows when it will). I don't think it will be - though I talked to one of the guys at Zero Hour before it was released and he said something about the Swervies having a deal over here as well. It's available on import now though (at least in Sweden). //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 17:09:11 EST From: Melochrome Subject: Re: Swervedriver (was: Re: Blue shift signal) actually, 99th dream is much more in the vein of "Ejector Seat Reservation" than "Mezcal Head". I love Raise..... the aural propulsion those songs have is incredible I thought Mezcal Head was ok with a few incredible songs("duress,""last train...") Ejector Seat... is more enjoyable than MH in my opinion, but it is a bit different. It isnt quite as "driving" and is a lot poppier....but still really great songwriting... 99th Dream continues in this vein... the songs are a lot lighter(with a couple of exceptions)....they dont have the "sprawling epic" feel of the first album....and to be honest, Adam's voice even sounds a bit like Noel Gallagher on a couple of tracks. It is still a good album with some great songs....but not very memorable I'm afraid. But it definately doesnt lessen my opinion of Swervedriver...and I cant wait to see them here in San Francisco on April 1!!! That is unless it's a big April Fool's joke and COunting Crows comes out on stage instead or something.... but then again these are my own opinions...take them with a grain of salt... And about the Autumns....I have never heard their stuff and have actually only heard about them through this list..... But apparantly they are coming to San Francisco in April and my band Solarium has already been tentatively asked to play with them here....so I'm pretty stoked.... I know it is a bit early, but for all you Bay Area kids, my band Solarium is slated to play at Bottom of the Hill on March 30th...at 10 pm....we are playing with Tsui(who I have never heard...apparantly kindof a poppier Sonic Youth) and Juniper(who are a great indiepop band...seriously they put on a great live show....).....so mark your calanders!! >actually, 99th dream is much more in the vein of "Ejector Seat Reservation" >than "Mezcal Head". "Mezcal Head" has a lot of great songs as well: duress, last train, and never lose that feeling (which was originally a single so i guess this doesn't count). ejector seat reservation was sort of a disappointment, though i haven't listened to it much and maybe it'll grow on me if i ever listen to it again. but I'd love to see them again! -gage ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 23:29:48 EST From: Catchbreez Subject: Re: The Autumns better than than the red house painters not as stuck up and more energy lovely band very nice fellows ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 22:42:46 -0600 (CST) From: James W Weber Subject: Re: The Autumns better than the red house painters? didn't think i'd ever hear of a band being that. heh. james ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 23:50:08 EST From: Catchbreez Subject: Re: The Autumns lead singer of the rhp is an asshole stuck up i like their music but he thinks is the shite the autumns were very down to earth he was not ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 3 Mar 1998 23:23:22 -0600 (CST) From: James W Weber Subject: Re: The Autumns he's not really stuck up...i've met him twice...just an average guy...i jsut think that ppl place to much stock in what the artists are like and dont just listen to the music. hes an incredibel song writer, and wheter or not hes a good person doesn't really enter into my judgement. james ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 04 Mar 1998 00:26:04 -0500 From: jvanslem Subject: Re: The Autumns Tim Warner wrote: > A friend of mine and I were listening to the Autumns one day. I definitely agree. They really shook me up because I first heard Raise because of the Slowdive EP misprint thingie, and thought "This is NOT Slowdive" - had no clue to what it was on the disc, so I wrote down some lyrics from a song and sent them to a friend who identified the song and the band. ;) > "Mezcal Head" has a lot of great songs as well: duress, last train, and > never lose that feeling (which was originally a single so i guess this > doesn't count).
