Hmm, well, it's really nice to receive something so fundamental at times ;) You, know, we should thank this guy - he (and others alike) provide a pretty good source of knowledge of ourselves, we might otherwise sometimes forget how special Slowdive was in the meaning of a musical phenomenon during its time, and how long our love for the timeless music can last. Although I'm sure nobody on this list will forget - the music does the work, you know. As for Rachel's "funny little noises" - I've always thought musicians aren't (and can't be) able to appreciate their musical past the same way as the listeners - it would create a stagnation, etc. Which of course doesn't mean that I will lose my respect for the band or for the music. And as for the grim reality of bootlegs and rarities, hmm... well... it's a... grim reality. But I still don't get it why mr Moron cared to post it, really. Rock on, you pathetic little Slowdive suckers ;) Siim K. ___________ siimk@ut.ee ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Apr 1998 13:56:10 -0400 (EDT) From: aaj292@agora.ulaval.ca (Christian Morin) Subject: the autumns and the moron.. They're called Grimble Grumble, and are from Chicago. Amazing lush soundscapes (ala Slowdive, Flying Saucer Attack, etc.), but they have a cool groove to them (ala old Verve). I don't know how easy it would be to find their CD (I got it from them at Terrastock), but if you see it, pick it up! They are friends of Windy & Carl (whih is how they got to play Terrastock). They have a contact address that was printed in the CD that I bought. Write them and get a CD, you won't be dissapointed!!! Grimble Grumble 9922 S. Exchange Ave. Chicago, Il. 60617-5448 BTW...Terrastock was so much fun! I've been to many music "festivals", but this was the most fun I've had in a LONG time! Everyone was cool. There was no attitude, and it seemed like everyone was there just for the music. There were man amazing bands who played over the weekend. Here are some of the acts had a possitive effect on me Windy & Carl: Great set! It's really amazing that only two people can have such a huge sound live! They are really nice people too! I talked to them for a little while about Slowdive, guitar effects, and hockey. Again, they are very nice people. Roy Montgomery was good. He played a great set that put everyone in a trance. Subarachnoid Space: A local San Francisco band that are always incredible live. They just get up on stage and jam. That takes a lot of balls IMHO. Spaceheads: These guys aren't a "shoeagzer" type band in any way, but were briliant! They are a trumpet player and a drummer. The trumpet player, (can't remember his name), was in the band James. He played trumpet with a ton of effects, and sampled stuff on the fly. Really hard to explain, but they were great! Grimble Gumble: See above. Having never heard of these guys before the festival, they are probably the one band that blew me out of my shoes! I love it when you "discover" new bands by complete acident! Bardo Pond: The loudest band I've seen since My Bloody Valentine. What can I say about them? If you've ever heard Bardo Pond, you know what I mean. Highlight of the night was when Roy Montgomery played with them on the last song. There were many, many great bands that played over the entire weekend. If there is another Terrastock again next year, I will be there! Cheers, -Mitch ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 20 Apr 1998 17:05:18 -0600 From: Brad Nicholson Subject: Re: rip slowdive > hi peeps > > i dont get it. you people are pathetic. slowdive broke up three years > ago and get you keep going round and round in circles discussing music > that was made by a band that expired long ago. Interesting, perspective, but I'm afraid but what that the existance of the band is irrelavent. Bands come and go, music lasts forever. A question though, do you you feel it's invalid to discuss the Beatles after thirty years? Or how about Beethoven 200 years after the fact. (Not that i'm comparing putting Slowdive in the same league as them). The fact is, music long outlives the composers. There's obviously enough people who still care about music of all sorts, what's so pathetic about that? As an annotation, hardly anybody cared about the Velvet Undergound when they were together. Thank god people were "pathetic" enough to discuss them about them two and a half decades after the fact, so that I was able to discover them. brad. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Apr 1998 19:44:25 EDT From: Catchbreez Subject: Re: rip slowdive well i have every thing released by mazzy star and every thing by drugstore and the only similarty i see is the twang of mazzy star and the fact that isabel monteiro plays bass get real they dismiss the slowdive stuff as funny noises becuase they want to progress and many of you want let them mojave 3 are amazing they sound nothing like drugstore or mazzy star more like the country/folk BYRDS albums and 70's country ala george jones steve ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 21 Apr 1998 19:48:57 EDT From: Catchbreez Subject: Re: the autumns and the moron.. Good morning, Ian has done other projects since then. If you haven't already have His Name is Alive-Stars on ESP, GET IT NOW! Ian Masters appears in the credits, and his influence (and vocals) on the album is fairly obvious. Then again, it's basically ESP Summer all over again. Except this time, the rest of HNIA appears on the album. Spoonfed Hybrid released an EP on Farrago Records back in '95/'96. Ian has also done some solo work under the name Oneironaut. I haven't really been keeping up on other happenings. If you need more info, check the Institute of Spoons (http://www.dfuse.com/xt/spoons/) and Farrago Records (http://www.neosoft.com/~hk/home.htm). If you plan to order something from the Instute, I gotta warn ya. You're gonna have to pay for international shipping if you don't live in England. I really don't think any of the works sound at all like Mojave 3. They do have that lo-fi appeal, but it's more quirky experimental music. I want to know what the members of those bands are doing now........... As for those hard to find singles...........to add insult to injury.......i just found the first 3 singles used for 3 dollars a piece, but i was searching for years. Funny that i finally found them for such a cheap price because there was a time that i'd pay 20 dollars for holding our breath .....easy. To hear the songs slowdive and avalyn for the first time was quite amazing........ ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Apr 1998 02:27:31 PDT From: "Matthew Falconer" Subject: big bunghole pentration hi again peeps. hmmmmmm. nice. i guess the truth hurts doesnt it? listen to mazzy star, listen to drugtore and then listen to mojave3... notice the similarities??? and yeah. i reckon the beatles sucked big dicks too. the rules go... if the band is dead, then they are dead for a reason... either the band felt that their creative goals have been fulfilled, or they all hated each others guts. OR NO ONE BOUGHT THEIR RECORDS AND THEY WEREN@T MAKING ENOUGH MONEY!!!!!! methinks slowdive fit in the third and final category. so then, why bother trolling around in the past? get out and listen to something new... its almost as pathetic as these spacemen3 freaks who listen to spacemen3 shit all day long... almost as pathetic as country music freaks who listen to the same old tired billy ray cyrus shit over and over again even though his musical career was in the toilet from day one... almost as pathetic as disco freaks who buy those fucking disco compilations (that all have le freak on them) and go to shitty 70s retro nights... "sure," you say, "but i am better than them coz slowdive is better, that stuff is shit." but no. its not better, you just like it more. and as for music changing your life profoundly??? get real!!! to the people who make it, its just a job. it puts the food on the table for them and pays the rent on their house. they dont care how you feel about it... JUST AS LONG AS YOU BUY IT... its like a ticket conductor on a bus changing your life profoundly because of the way he/she sells you a bus ticket... the way they count your change... the way they push the ticket into you hand... the sensuality, the feeling... oh god! (i mean ooooops!) its just changed your life forever. music is just another job. get over it. sure, if it sounds nice then listen to it, but for god sake, have a sense of perspective... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Apr 1998 09:58:00 +0000 From: "wade@tapehouse.com" Subject: Unidentified subject!
