I've been a slowdive fan for six years. But the only non official release that I have is the Oslo MP3s. So, I'm looking for Videos (us format) of live shows or television appearances or music videos. I'm also interested in audio of live shows. And era is fine, but I'd love to hear pre-Souvlaki stuff. Or anything really. I'd be into doing trades, or 2-1 tardes (two blank tapes for one filled with material). Anything really. Let me know!!! I am able to write about them for months, but maybe it will be as boring as their music -they recognize it! They say "music reflects the listener; so if you find our music boring..."- I recomend their third lp "Labradford". It's full of imaginative samplers and magic. Live they are not so good, but their records are incredible -for me, at least- They use old keyboards, guitars & a bass and they make Codeine sound like Napalm Death. You can find all the information you want about both bands at >http://www.post-rock.com/bands.html If you want more information that the one you've read it this site I think I can help you. Just ask. I probably listen to Beat the most - "Fear of Flying" was one of my favorite songs of 1996. Links: http://www.brainwashed.com/bowery/ (mp2 songs samples, complete discography) http://www.beggars.com/bowery/bowery.html (official site) http://www.brainwashed.com/bowery/links.html ( lots more links) Labradford's releases (and the new album by Pan-American) are both great. It's tough to describe their sound - you should give em a listen. Their first self-titled album on kranky (1995) is absolutely wonderful. it has watery slowdive-esque guitars, my bloody valentine-y coed vocals and exceptionally powerful drums 'n bass. It is one of the best shoegaze albums in recent years. Their follow-up ("beat") from 1996 sounds a bit less dreamy and more spaced-out minimalism ( a la main), but it is a great album culminating with the 16 minute end track "postscript" which drifts and drifts until you just want it to drift on forever...or something like that. They also have a 2-cd remix album on beggars banquet uk with mixes off the "beat"lp by bands like main and third eye foundation (reeeeeeaaaalllly good!), and a recent 12" on happy go lucky records called "electric sleep"/"blow up" which is real good drums'n bass. lord, i've rambled far to long... apologies to those who don't care about bowery electric( you should, though). hope this helps. john ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 06 May 1998 20:18:55 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Re: Grimble Grumble> >>> I have a fanzine called "100.000 Luciernagas" (sorry, only in Spanish!). >> >> Here's one who's interested - please send it along if you can! >> Thanks! > > 100.000 Luciernagas includes: Mike Alway, Navigator, Damon & Naomi, The > Third Eye Foundation, Julien Baer, Spoonfed Hybrid, Dream City Film Club, > Amber Asylum, Labradford, Fuck, Quicskpace, Enraptured/Earworm + Wurlitzer > Jukebox, Quigley, Sophia, Hood, Tarwater, The Azusa Plane, The Married > Monk, The Village, Broadcast, The Magnetic Fields, Windy & Carl and a few > interesting Spanish bands. > > If you want I can send you one copy of this issue and one of the one I used > to do -Las Lagrimas de Macondo- with Flying Saucer Attack, Prolapse, > Bedhead, Submarine,... > If you want to send me some items for them as a switch... I have occasionally thought that Bowery Electric are the Slowdive of today whereas FSA are the MBV of today, though when I analyze it it probably breaks down. I like "Prazision" by Labradford the best. Its very beautiful, especially the 20 minute intro song (which I listened to entering the desert in the middle of the night at my first Burning Man). its great desert music, very expansive yet minimal. reminds me a bit of slow Spacemen3, maybe "walking with jesus" or something like that. "don't ever stop" (or something like that) has a great melody. i have another labradford albuk which isn't as compelling. I wasn't captivated by "vertigo" in the store either. kind of boring i thought. (and stars of the lid are on of my fav's right now). -gage ------------------------------ End of Avalyn Digest Vol.98 #74 ********************************
