I thought Mojave 3 was just hidden somewhere in the movie, but to grab a slowdive b-side really made me appreciate the directors taste even more. by the way.....GREAT FUCKIN MOVIE!(in an italian mobster kind of tone) Not trying to offend any italians on the list. :) Alright....that's it... ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 15:55:32 +0100 From: davebp@postmaster.co.uk Subject: ambient its quiet... almost too quiet... where has everyone gone? ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 10:39:38 +0000 From: "wade@tapehouse.com" Subject: Re: ambient nexus 6, come join us! wade ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 98 17:54:23 UT From: "Lisa Johnson" Subject: RE: Telescopes Just wanted to thank everyone for the info about The Telescopes! My band Splinterworld is playing at 10:30. If you love MBV/Slowdive/Ride, then you won't be disappointed! E-mail me for directions if needed, or if you want a tape with 2 songs. wade ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 22:32:09 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: More Mojave 3 News The release of the new and *limited* single 'Who Do You Love' was moved to June 29th (sunday the 28th wasn't a very good day was it? :)). It will be followed by yet another single - 'Some Kind Of Angel' which has a release date set to August 17th. Then, in September it is time for the big bang - their second album - 'Out of Tune'! Gigs booked so far (more coming up): June 24th - London, The Water Rats (UK) //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 16:12:13 +0000 From: "wade@tapehouse.com" Subject: Re: More Mojave 3 News Eric, IS that a U.K. release date, or both U.S. and U.k. date? wade ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 23:01:38 +0200 From: Erik Soderstrom Subject: Re: More Mojave 3 News > IS that a U.K. release date, or both U.S. and U.k. date? These are all UK release dates. I have no information at all about US dates (in fact, I receive no information from 4AD at all - they're unsuccessfully ignoring me - heaven knows why, but the information gets through anyway - from the people who *do* receive information from 4AD (anyone on this list?) and directly from Rachel). //Erik ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 May 1998 22:17:05 EDT From: M242557sm Subject: Re: More Mojave 3 News i have heard that a new my bloody valentine ep came out a few weeks ago, anyone heard it or heard of it? supposedly came out on creation? hmmmm? anyone know, someone i know at a record store came across it and special ordered me one? let me know if anyone has any news on this.. thanks. shane. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 16:07:10 +1000 (EST) From: athomas@postoffice.utas.edu.au (Alister Thomas) Subject: Re: lsd et al. Hi everyone I'm a "newbie" to this list so I'll introduce myself. My name is Alister and I'm from Australia. I've been lurking around for a while but decided to join in and have some fun, too!! Projekt bands: >LSD kick Loveliescrushing's ass by the way, Mmmmmm... I have recently started listening to both these bands and I tend to think of them both in terms of being very similar to certain English "cousins" that have been around for longer. I have to say that I much prefer Loveliescrushing to LSD, anyday. I was totally blown away by the two albums "Xuvetyn" and "Bloweyelashwish". It's like they picked up where "Loveless" (MBV) left off. It's the kind of music I'd write if I was going to make my own music. Has anyone noticed the remarkable similarity between the front cover of "Loveless" and the picture on the inside sleeve of "Xuvetyn" of the guitar scratchboard???? Funny, that... Yeah, and Love Spirals Downwards, I think, owe a lot to the Cocteau Twins. "Idylls" particularly. I haven't got "Ador" just yet (it's on it's way - Projekt label bands, like most imports, are very much a hit-and-miss affair to order from record shops here which amazes me because they're so readily available in the States. But I'm not getting my copy through a record shop... stuff that!!!). Yeah, I don't have "Ador" yet, so wouldn't have a clue how it measures up. >has anyone heard the kevin shields remix of coming up roses by curve??? > >i'm curious to know whether it was just me or did everyone else think that >he didn't do anything useful at all to the original song... it is pretty >much the same song... ie: a crap remix... So Kevin got his wish to work with Curve, did he???? Haven't heard this yet. Will have to check it out soooooooon. I wonder if he'll get his wish to work with the Jesus and Mary Chain??? Seeing as though they're back on Creation, I wonder if Alan McGee will let him back in the studios, considering his last little effort... Hi all, I have an urgent question concerning the Cocteau Twins. There are rumours that the band has split. I've been to the Cocteau Twins web site, but there were no messages about it. Does anyone knows something more??? Kurt ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 16:00:00 +0100 From: "Samuels, Mark" Subject: Cocteau Twins Apparently they have split - and by all accounts it was a while back. If you look on their Website (under the section where the band send you their latest news), Simon Raymonde goes into great length detailing the (apparent) demise of the band. He says that they shelved the last album they were working on and that solo projects are now the way forward. Talking of solo projects, I was lucky enough to get Simon Raymonde's debut album in London for 2 pounds a couple of days ago - and I thought it was bloody good. Much better than I'd expected. I also picked up Blind Mr Jones 'Eyes Wide EP' - class. Very Slowdivey. And that Bowery Electric remix album for one quid. Ridiculous price. Just thought I'd let everyone know how lucky I am. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 11:26:33 -0400 (EDT) From: Michael Gilham Subject: CT: From the source Hey! below is a copy of Simon's announcement that CT had called it quits - the original can still be found archived at the web-site : in the "Pandora's Box" part of the "Forums" section ... here is a copy of simon's message: January 25, 1998 at this moment it would be foolish to deny that there is some uncertainty as to the future of this group. The record we were making has been abandoned, so there are no immediate plans for any releases. While it is unlikely that these difficulties will be resolved, there is some hope that this record, a record, from this period will surface at some point. The label 'bella union' is flourishing, and there is no end to the differing projects that the three of us will be involved in, resulting in hopefully many more records than before. Perhaps there is a feeling that this is a rather premature end to the group, but i would rather leave it to others to commentate, commiserate, analyse, and dissect the whys and wherefores. I have no intention of going into the personal nature of these conflicts, but would like to say that all three of us would be nowhere without the dedication and commitment that you all show. Of course many of you will feel unsatisfied by much of what i have said, but this is not rocket science. this group is a very emotive force, and you must take into consideration how strongly we all feel about this. there will be more cocteau twins records etc to come out over the next few years.4AD are planning a compilation;Mercury probably aren't, but well you never know! Robin and I both have some very exciting things on the go; we are also talking about doing a ecord together very soon; but for the moment i shall finish by saying that perhaps one day things will settle down, enabling us to move forward, but at this precise moment, you should understand that I am not in a position to give any more information. thanks everyone. simonx ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 08:31:04 -0700 (PDT) From: Petrina Subject: Simon Raymonde This was posted on the Bel Canto list: "For your information - if you didn`t know, Anneli (Drecker of Bel Canto, an amazingly wonderful Norwegian band) is going to work with ex-Cocteau Twins member, Simon Raymonde in a project. She is really excited about it. Anneli and Tor Magnus (Bel Canto web site manager) exchanged phone numbers backstage after Bel Cantos concert March 21st at Rockefeller (b/c Simon contacted TM about contacting Anneli). You should have seen Anneli's face when TM told her about Simon's request...She's SO excited...As you all know Anneli is a big Cocteau Twins fan." ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 May 1998 11:34:17 -0400 (EDT) From: Michael Gilham Subject: Slowdive in films On Tue, 12 May 1998, wade@tapehouse.com wrote: > I just wanted to announce how surprised I was when I rented the movie > Nowhere over the weekend and heard Avalyn II during the opening > credits. I'm still waiting to see Nowhere, myself ... I should mention that Doom Generation, while it, obviously, has some good music in, is sorta whack ...
