hello,
 nice to see some enthusiastic people around here. distributing those 20 
great ideas, you should probably also do some geographical thinking, 
especially as reducing costs and making them available seems to be the 
main goal. it would make things easier later on if the initial copies 
went to as different countries as possible. keep up the good work. - h.

	Exactly what I was thinking! Tracking down "distributors" will be the
toughest part about getting this compilation out there - I have talked to a
bunch of people already that are from different parts of the world that
would be interested to help out..anyways - thanks for your enthusiasm...:)

i saw three cocteau twins box sets at amoeba records in san francisco the other
day for $100 each.  i bought a copy about a year ago for $50.  i guess it varies.
in my opinion, $75 is a pretty reasonable price, i mean, there *are* 10 discs in
there.

Erm, thanks ... however, only about half the trks. are "acoustic ballady
things."   The comp. is well worth getting for the latter and for the
songs which come from different ends of the spectrum -- THIEVERY CORP.;

remember they dont make loads of money when i met them in austin 
she told me how much she dispised the bootlegs

ill admit a friend of mine made me a cdr copy of the eps and bsides
but i had most of it already and im not selling it

to make this truly a compliation for us people who just want the meaterial,
love the band, and dont want to pay the high prices.. non-profit seems the way
to go.. and i think its what we were all talking about anyways.. is a non
profit comp... 
sounds like a great idea to me.. 
how could a band disaprove of someone loving their meaterial so much, that
they choose to make it available for people who want it, at non profit
prices..

I'm not trying to be mean it's just we've all heard the arguments back and forth 
it's nothing really new... My own personal opinion is... I have respect for the
band and all the other people involved, they're entitled to their money and
all... but if the stuff is out of print and we want to hear it.. How does
putting together a CD hurt them?  They're not putting one out so they're not
losing any money... and even if they did put one out later on.. me and a bunch
of other people would probably buy it anyway... I would really like to see this
CD go ahead, and I am willing to contirbute in anyway...   There's my to
cents...

Doing something like this if non-profit is fine, IF the band is not
against the project.    However, most of you seem to be saying
that you don't care what the band thinks, you're going to do it 
anyway.

concerning this thing, i have just one question that i think is relevant --
just how different is a cd-r from a tape as far as copyright etc goes?
we're just talking technology.  nobody disagrees that trading tapes of old
stuff is okay -- what about cd-r's for tapes, or cd-r's for cd-r's?  i guess
it's just the cash thing.  if we could just take cash out of the picture,
then maybe there wouldn't be so many objections?  really, i don't see a
solid argument against just going ahead and doing the damn thing as long as
it's not done in david stack fashion.
