Laura says that she likes Curve Being new to this list I am assuming that I need not praise the music of Spiritualized. I have been lucky enough to see them at Glastonbury and the Royal Festival Hall in the last week, both shows were excellent proving the superiority of Jason Pierce and co. over the majority of bland meaningless music we are subjected to in the UK these days. Cheers.... Steve PS I heard rumours that Neil was joining Bernard Butler's backing band for tour purposes. Hello! I love the idea of doing Top 10 band lists (because you can see what other people listen to), so thought I'd better do one but I also thought that it might be an idea to do a list of Top 5 songs to listen to when you're feeling suicidal (a bit of a playful pisstake of the image of Slowdive/shoegaze type listeners as being morbid depressive types etc...). Well, the Top 5 suicide songs list just goes to PROVE that I'm a tragic/romantic type (and if I am, then I'm taking time out to laugh at myself!!!!). Ha ha!!! Top 10 bands in no particular order: 1) Flying Saucer Attack 2) Moose 3) Spiritualized 4) Rollerskate Skinny 5) The Church 6) Big Star 7) Super Furry Animals 8) Red House Painters 9) This Mortal Coil 10) Windy & Carl There!!! Now for top 5 suicide dirges (also in no particular order): 1) Black Tape for a Blue Girl - "Of these reminders" 2) Red House Painters - "Katy song" 3) The Cure - "All cats are grey" 4) Slowdive - "Avalyn 1" 5) Chameleons - "Second skin" Well, there are probably better songs than those but they were just off the top of my head... there! I've just proven what an unhappy person I am!!! LOL!!!!!! And that's it for today!!! Greetings, I am new to the slowdive list, but not new to the band……….. who is bill laswell? bill laswell is considered to be one of the foremost dub artists around. he is incredible, he re-did an ambient translation in dub of some of bob marley's greatest hits. it is simply breathtaking. he also remixed some of miles davis's stuff as well that was released in may. It is called panthalassa. It is wonderful as well. it contains some never-before heard versions of davis's works. panthalassa is not as laswell influenced like the bob marley disc. also worth checking out are some of the APC volumes by bill laswell. i have volume I and II. i really enjoy them. (normally i am a little bit more expressive/articulate than this, sorry!) my favorite albums would be: 1. spiritualized's lazer guided melodies, pure phase, and fucked up inside 2. slowdive's just for a day 3. cocteau twins victorialand (an absolutely heartbreakingly beautiful album) 4. curve's cuckoo 5. sianspheric's turbulent hydrodynamic 6. 7% solution's all about satellites and spaceships 7. bowery electric's beat (fear of flying is my fix-everything-that-feels- wrong song) 8. flying saucer attack's further (i love the way david pearce uses the acoustic guitar) 9. enya's memory of trees (the cd in my collection that i have listened to the most) 10. bill laswell/miles davis panthalassa well, that is a little bit of what i enjoy listening to. peace, love, and high altitudes laura PS how many people are on this list? in the 100's? ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 07 Jul 1998 07:11:56 -0500 From: o_o_o Subject: Re: Disposition of Slowdive Fans and the proliferation of unwanted jargon-based text packets I've seen this name misspelled several times in the last few days, and I can hold my tongue no longer.
