EMMA BREAKS OUT WITH SING-SING
EMMA ANDERSON (right), former
guitarist with defunct UK indie faves
LUSH, makes her first public appearance
with new outfit SING-SING on
Wednesday, July 29.
The recently-formed band plays their first
gig as support to Mojave 3 and Locust at
London ULU. Sing-Sing, featuring
vocalist and co-songwriter Lisa O'Neill,
are currently looking for a recording deal.
Their material has been described as
"more loops-based than Anderson's work
with Lush."

announced their
permanent split
after nearly a
year-and-a-half
of inactivity
following the
suicide of
drummer Chris
Acland (second from the left in the photo) in October
1996.
Guitarist and singer Emma Anderson has formed her
own band Sing-Sing and is currently demoing songs to
secure a record deal. Lush lead singer Miki Berenyi is
also working on solo material. Phil King will be joining
the Jesus And Mary Chain as bassist on their
upcoming tour.
A statement from Lush's record company 4AD says
the split is completely amicable. The demise of the
band had been anticipated for some time in music
circles since their career had been on hold since
drummer Acland committed suicide at his parent's
Lake District home.
While it always seemed unlikely that Lush would
continue without their long-time friend in the line-up,
no reasons have been given as to why they took so
long to finally announce the end of the partnership.
The band, who formed in 1988, had a career spanning
three albums and one mini-LP - 'Spooky', 'Split',
'Lovelife' and 'Scar', respectively - the last being
'Lovelife' in March 1996. Their first album 'Spooky'
was their most successful, reaching number seven in
the UK album charts in February 1992.
They achieved their biggest UK singles chart success
with their last three releases in 1996: 'Single Girl'
reached number 21 in January of that year,
'Ladykillers' hit 22 in March and '500 (Shake Baby
Shake)' made it to 21 in July. Lush also made
well-received appearances on the US Lollapalooza
tours.

i like them... probably one of the best examples of "darkwave" -- think of
a gothed-out dead can dance. someone i knew just saw them the other night
and she liked them. i've heard they tend to get pretty theatrical, but the
music is pretty good.

MOOSE are great!!
They are not very similar to Slowdive, however. Pick up anything
you can find by them!! Their songs are in a more traditional pop-vein
than Slowdive's, by the way.
I'm not too familiar w/ Idaho, but what I've heard of 'em sounded
pretty good ... [hopefully, someone else will help out w/ the above ..]

quite, though ya won't catch me calling such bands the above term;
especially MOOSE!!! Really, I think we'd be better off just discussing
the music and not trying to pigeon-hole bands to fit arbitrary,
categories.

idaho are ok.. look for their first album, i wish i could tell you what it was

just had to say...
in the past few months i have found 5ep, catch the breeze 7", and just
today, holding our breath ep. all of these just at wax n facts in atlanta and
i do not even get down there very much?! also, i found the self titled ep
online and the "beach song" 7" arrived at my home today courtesy of
www.seventhsound.com . the most i have paid for any of these is ten dollars.
i still think the comp cd should be made. i don't think it hurts the group
at all since i expect most people will buy the records, i would just really
the songs on cd also. i don't even know what i meant to say. ... so what are
the most rare slowdive releases? (besides blueday obviously) i would love some
suggestions for some more record stores online that anyone might know of...
there is still much i need.

Idaho are decent. I really love their first album Year After Year, but
their other two aren't that great. Their stuff is pretty slow and heavy but
really pretty at times. At least that is what Year After Year is like. I
have had all three of their albums but I only kept YAY and I sold the other
two (their latest is Three Sheets to the Wind and I can't think of the name
of the second one).

a white lable copy of holding our breath , hand written label
a white labled cassete of souvlaki,
a promo cd of souvlaki,
a miss printed copy of just 4 a day
also, my copy of the slowdive ep has a press sheet in it from a marketing
company

I am so dissapointed... As i was gazing at the inside mini-cover for
Souvlaki yesterday, I must say that my conclusion is the exact opposite
of yours. Rachel is by no means an astounding beauty, and gillian
anderson, well, just is. I'm expecting to get demolished for this
heretical viewpoint, but hey didn't we get scolded for talking about our
opinions of a females looks once before on this list.... i didn't say it...
