I'm brand new to the avalyn list, but not to Slowdive/Mojave3. I've been a fan since the early days (first ep, onward). I saw Slowdive play 4 times, but havent seen Mojave 3 yet. (was anyone at the Cal State Fullerton show at the pub in California during the Souvlaki tour? best show ever!!) I have a tape of the first show that I saw Slowdive play at the Coach House in CA 5-28-92 during the tour with Ride. The tape also has a mixing board recording of "Bleed" and a studio version of "Joy". if anyone is interested in trading for other live shows etc. Let me know. Thanks!! It has a lot more acoustic beauty mixed in with the spacey sounds. The songs sound a bit more tangible and don't just fade into outer space..........but then again who's to say thats a bad thing........ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jul 1998 06:16:04 -0700 From: kGB Subject: Re: Bill Laswell and clarity of vision avalyn@lysator.liu.se wrote: > laswell played bass with john zorn tooo he also played on the Swans album The Burning World... definitely not their best, but i'm not sure here who reallycares a/b them... also, i don't know if it has been mentioned, but Laswell did a cd of reinterpretations of miles davis stuff, ... have yet to hear it myself... could prove interesting. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jul 1998 06:25:06 -0500 From: Byron Subject: FSA/Mogwai To the guy who likes FSAs "song type" stuff, and I'm surprised that so few people mention this release, but the Outdoor Miner/Psychic Driving EP is EXCELLENT. I guess it's not as common as many of the other releases. Speaking of FSA, I own NEARLY all of the releases, but I've never heard the live album - I'd like to hear what people who own most of the discography think of it (make comparisons). Anyway, yesterday I FINALLY got around to buying the new Mogwai double CD (Kicking a Dead Pig + Mogwai Fear Satan remix EP), and just thought it deserved at least one more mention on the list. Kevin Shields' remix alone is worth the price, not to take away from the rest of the material, which is of the highest quality. -- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jul 1998 06:30:21 -0500 From: Byron Subject: "guilty pleasures" Whew... Shania Twain... HANSON??? Listen, KingOGrief, instead of feeding the beast (666) you can keep your money and just download MP3s of popular albums. If a "slowbox" ever gets released you'd better buy two or three to make up for your mainstream purchases! Heheh. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jul 1998 08:21:04 +0000 From: Brian Burgher Subject: Re: flying saucer attack distance, distance, distance, distance, distance Ifyou like fsa definitely try out the band amp I seem to like them better they too are from the bristol scene also the gem to the albulms lies in the help brought by matt elliot of thid eye foundation.also female lyrics. judging by your favorite song on new lands you will definitely like amp. albulms in order that i like1.passe present 2.sirenes 3.astralmoonbeam brian p.s.if you happen to buy further by f.s.a.get it on vinyl I can swear it is adifferent mix it sounds ten times better to me on vinyl and I AM NOT A VINYL LOONY. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jul 1998 09:02:50 -0400 From: "Mark Stancombe" Subject: Re: hello & hi all > Hey Silabysss...... hint hint. > (If it's not already covered) Not to worry, I'm already on it...:-] ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 23 Jul 98 09:49:04 CST From: Crios@dminet.davidson-marketing.com Subject: Re[2]: clarity of vision/top 40 confessions hmmmm... His Avant label puts out more than just Jazz though. Buckethead had an album on Avant. there is a Zorn mailing list in fact. Though I do not subscribe, nor am I a fan, I know it is out there. I have a sizeable amount of slowdive and [dis]like-bands to trade [mbv, ride, etc.]. I can trade on regular cassettes, DATs, and CD. If you've got anything, please let me know about it. I didn't pick it up but I thought I'd post and ask anyone if they wanted me to go and get it for them (it should still be there on Monday) I'd love to trade it for something like "Hex" or "Independency" (Bark Psychosis), the 1st FSA album or "Beat" by Bowery Electric but to name a few things I'm after. This pressing of Lazer Guided Melodies, as with is common with most Japanese releases of things, comes complete with lyrics in both English and Japanese. Interesting packaging. Any interested parties mail me privately to figure something out...
