Actually, the song has nothing to do with the band name. Rachel was the only
Siouxsie fan in Slowdive - the others absolutely *hated* them. The name came
to Neil in a dream, apparently.

I definitely remember reading an article where the interviewer brings up the
subject of Siouxsie (Rachel's reaction was something like "Fucking superb!
No one ever asks me about them in interviews!"). She explained that the
others in the band loathed the Banshees. The story about Neil getting the
name from a dream is pretty well-known.

Neil replies: Well, some time ago we stopped being Slowdive, lost a few
members, gained some others, became Mojave, then Mojave 3, put away most of
our effects pedals...

Seriously, though, this list is for people who want to discuss
Slowdive/Mojave 3 and similar stuff. The band don't actually participate,
although Rachel corresponds with some listies sometimes.

i was looking through a magazine and they mentioned that the cardigans
have a song called "Celia's Dream" on their album first band on the
moon.

Is this a cover of the Slowdive song at all?  Or is a reference to
something similar? :O

Lawrence, Kansas.  It's not bad.

Hello everyone,

   For those of you who couldn't get in on the action the 1st time around,
I will be ordering more Silvania stuff in early to mid-January. So if
anyone is interested, please let me know what you would like. I would like
to request that everyone pay in advance, if possible, but please don't
send anything until I get back to you personally. I am only going to order
if enough people want it. Since the shipping from Spain is more outrageous
than I originally thought (last order was $35 shipping), I will have to
mark the prices up for the CDs and LPs. The costs will probably be $15 for
CDs and $12 for LPs, plus shipping. It may be less, but I don't want to do
a definate quote until I know how many people are interested. The more
people who are, the less the cost will be.
   Anyhow, just let me know what you would like to order when the time
comes, and I should be able to get back with everyone within a week. So
please respond soon if you have interest.

all the eps on cd plus Holding Our Breath on 7", yippee!!  One really needs
to have the eps so you have those two other songs not on blueday (Avalyn2
and Golden Hair).

So.....there were like 2000 souvlaki/blueday's and lots more of the french
and japanese versions since it was just a normal release for a few years.
how many people are on the list?  i'd say about half of us have one of the

According to the Swervedriver guys, it is a rare item. I have heard
different things about how many copies were made before they realized
the error, everything from 200 to 1000, but a 1000 copy edition is
pretty limited sort of.

I should have asked this earlier to everyone who has blue day.  When,
where, and how much did you get it for?  I'm just wondering because blue
day must be the rarest slowdive cd around.  right?

I guess it's the original release that I'm talking about.  I didn't know
blue day was released with souvlaki, on import, right?  Did the release
with souvlaki come as a double cd, did it have all the songs from the
original, and did it have the same art?

The Souvlaki/blueday cd looks just like the regular import Souvlaki (not the
domestic though).  It's one of those cases where the actual black tray
thingy swings out.  It does have all the same songs on it.

Blue Day was released on Creation (made in France as most of their cds
were) with a cover that looked like cracked glass with, oh i can't
remember what was behind the glass.  the Japanese version (same tracks)
came with lyrics I believe.  I think the Japanese version stayed in print
longer than the UK one.  It was then stuck in with the first 2000 (?)
copies of Souvlaki.  a sticker on the front cover was the only mention of
the bonus cd.  it had the same songs as the original but the cd was black
with blue lettering, done in the style of the UK souvlaki cd.  There was
no information about the cd in souvlaki's little booklet.

Blue Day was not rare, not at all, when it was in print.  I saw it at the
local Tower often in '92, more often than Just For A Day.  I bought mine
for $17.  It was a "mini-album", hence the price.  I got the import
souvlaki w/blue day for around $23 (normal import price)

The only reasons it's rare now are 1) it probably didn't sell well, which
is why it's out of print 2) people who bought it want to hang on to it.
the bonus cds that came with souvlaki are rare since 2000 is a very small
number.  

If i remember right, Holding OUr Breath was the first of the eps to go out
of print.  I'm still not so sure that the other two aren't still
available.  For the record, i've seen blue day sell for as much as $60 and
Holding Our Breath for as much as $65.

My roommate picked it up at the local store here about 2 years ago in the
used bin for $6.99. Hee hee! (except I must say I am a bit jealous). This
was before we even knew Blue Day existed and he was just like "Hey cool."

in my many travels, i have only met one person who actually had blue 
day on cd. she said that it came bundled up with the souvlaki 
release.

i suppose i can be happy.  at least i had the chance to see slowdive 
in concert before they changed to mojave3.

I bought Blue Day probably 4 or 5 years ago right after "Just for a Day"
came out.  It was originally a Creation promo disc but ended up getting
sold in the US.  I had no idea there was a Japanese version though.

I also got a copy of it with the import Souvlaki but I gave it to a
friend of mine...  

I also have the autographed "Holding Our Breath" "Morningrise" ,
"Outside Your Room" 5EP and "Slowdive" EPs. on CD and Vinyl.  Where were
all you guys when these were released?  They were easy to find then.

Just a snippet of advice for all you fellow slowdivers out there who're
still scouring the earth for the 'holding our breath' ep...don't give up! I
managed to luck upon a completely autographed copy (of the 'original'
line-up; i.e. with drummer simon) in a used cd shop a few months back for
the economical price of $10! (yikes. $65???) hee-hee!

It looks like the docks, umm, a shipyard or something like that, with
large cranes (or one large crane) - it might just be the London docks
in fact.

The original CD was released in Scandinavia, Benelux, France and Japan
only. (It is time for me to update the discography, I know, though
it's all in there now..)

No, only the first 1000 copies even. And it was available in both
the UK and the US, so perhaps only 500 copies reached each country?

The interesting thing here is that Creation has apparently re-issued most
of the Slowdive catalog recently. That's what one of the record mailorder
places I frequent says at least, and I believe them, as they have at least
the albums in stock, now labeled "re-issue". Though I don't know about the
singles and EPs.

Okay, I have a question here. I am fairly sure Souvlaki didn't come
out domestic in the US until well after the UK release (months at
least).  So what did they do, hold back 500 copies of Blue Day?

the only copies that were available in the US were imported from the UK.
I'm sure only a small fraction of the first 1000 came to the US.  SBK
didn't release Souvlaki in the US until 8 months after it came out in the
UK, which is why they added the extra tracks (to get people who already
had the import to buy the domestic version).

Erik, so the only ones you've seen reissued are JFAD, Souvlaki, and
Pygmalion?  If so i wouldn't take that to mean the singles & eps have been
reissued too.  But what do i know.  JFAD was one of the 10 or 12 creation
"classics" reissued earlier this year so maybe this is what's going on.

I know for sure that the first 2 Slowdive EPs have been reissued (Creation's
a money hungry corporate piece of crap now, they'll do anything for a few
extra quid).  A friend of mine who lives smack dab in the middle of Missouri
got in the first 2, but they're now on Nimbus discs, not MPO.  But I think
the 3rd (the best) EP hasn't been reissued.

I dunno why you people are having so much trouble finding this stuff, I 
bought most of my stuff last year still (first pressings too) and didn't
pay collector's prices and I'm not in a very big city...oh well.
