I just can't believe no one has mentioned that (The) Verve are back,
and that with a gorgeous single, "Bitter Sweet Symphony", which was
released on June 16th (together with a video).

I was devastated when they broke up (as with Adorable, Ride, Slowdive,
Curve, Stone Roses etc.) But now, at least Curve and Verve are back,
Mojave 3 are great (though in a different field), Hurricane #1 are ok,
Seahorses are pretty ok. But whatever happened to the members of
Adorable?!

Anyway - Verve's still amazing. The whole single blows me away, not
only the title track (ie. "Bitter Sweet Symphony"). "Lord I Guess I'll
Never Know" is a slow, enormously beautiful, so true (lyrically)
masterpiece. Acoustic guitar mixed with an electric one in the background,
drums and bass, all together with Richard's fantastic voice throughout the
whole song - to the noisy, but still slow, end. And "Country Song" is a
dreamy landscape of the old-school-Verve, something to float away to.
Just the way it should be.

The lyrics are filled with references to death, the end, but also life
and living. Can't wait to hear the album! Anyone know when it's due?

Yes, it seems that this mailing list has somehow ended up on several
mass-mailing, spammer, whatever, lists. All I can say is that I am
working on removing the list from all of them, but it's a living hell,
believe me (I receive about 30 unsolicited, commercial mass-mailing
messages a day, personally - and I act on all of them - which leaves
me with little time on my hands for other things, but what can I do?).

I've handled several lists before, for a bunch of years, and most of
them have never been hit. But some have, and I have even been forced
to close two, as a last resort, when nothing else worked.

I'm not sure if someone put this list's address on these lists just to
get back at me for shutting down a bunch of spammers about a year ago
(when another list of mine was hit), or if they just pick a bunch of
addresses, and this list happened to be one of them.

In any case - here's the deal:

 1. This list is not handled by any special mailing list software,
    only a general pointer that points to a database where all the
    subscriber addresses reside. Hence, I can't use standard filtering
    techniques or write smart scripts (well, I guess I could if I
    made it a completely moderated list, but that's not an option
    as far as I'm concerned - anyone disagree?) to get rid of the
    spam. I could of course set up one of the mailing list software
    packages available - but that means spending time on learning
    to use it, shutting down the lists that are operational now
    and asking everyone to re-subscribe, hoping that the roots
    here allow it, etc. I will do it though, but only if I really
    have to, and only when I have time to do it. Any suggestions?

 2. I follow the guidelines in these spam messages on how to
    remove oneself (in this case - the list) from their lists.
    As you probably saw yesterday, this does not always work,
    so...

 3. I work together with the NFIC - National Fraud Information Center
    when it comes to the worst spammers (ie. the recent ones as well
    as the ones it is impossible to unsubscribe from), but they are
    up to their necks with work, and it takes time for them to
    investigate, and even longer to act, so...

 4. I contact each and every ISP I can find in the headers of the
    spam messages, asking them politely and kindly to investigate
    and close these spammers accounts - or I have to file a RFI
    (Request For Investigation) with the NFIC. Most ISPs don't want
    that. The ball is in the ISPs courts, but they move slowly as
    well. So if you want to complain, or just shout at them, you
    have my blessing - the more the better. If you want me to
    give you their addresses, let me know and I'll send them.
    I even have a couple of "standard complaint letters" if you
    need them.

 5. I also contact (if at all possible - ie. if the person has been
    dumb enough to include a real e-mail address somewhere in the
    message or if the header reveals it in some way) the person who
    sent the spam message, with a not-so-nice message.

 6. If all of the above fails - I have to take down the mailing list.
    If I do, I will only rename the "list" address - which is a 
    short-term solution, I know. If that happens, you'll all know
    about it. Hopefully, none of the spammers are subscribed to
    the list - or this solution is not a solution anymore. I can
    of course make the list a moderated one as well - but I leave
    it up to you to decide if you want that or not.


So I hope you now know that I *am* working on this, but that I could
also need help - on several of the things mentioned above.

Hello all,

	A bit of news here. I recently received some Slowdive Sunday 
flexis straight from Sunday - so they still have a few apparently.
However, they must be "leftovers" because they came sans sleeve (plastic
and printed!). So I took the liberty to photocopying the original sleeve
and sticking some plastic outer sleeves on there so they look a bit more
attractive on the store shelves. Anyhow, I have some for $2 plus shipping,
but you can probably still get some from Sunday records too. E-mail if
interested.
	Also, I've come across the Electronic Evocations Silver Apples
Tribute 10". This is super rare, way out of print and worth ooo gobs of
money...but I'd rather see it go to some fine individual here than to some
collector scum place, so if you are interested, please e-mail me for this
also (bids please). Also, the store I run (The Pop Shop) is continually
getting in great stock (Kranky, Darla Bliss Outs, Bowery Electric double
7", etc. etc.) so please check us out! If you would like to get on our
mailing list, give us an e-mail.

I just purchased Locust's new album called "Morning Light". I had earlier
heard only one Locust song and it was very ambientish instrumental. So
"an alternative pop" album wasn't kind of what I expected but I'm not
disappointed. There are num vocalists appearing on the album: Zoe 
Niblett, Craig Bethell, Annie Williams, Mel Skye, Wendy Roberts and on
the last song Neil Halstead. 

Neil's song is called "On The Horizon" and he has written the lyrics to it.
The song is hm mellow and dark. I like it :) Here's the lyrics if someone

a couple of questions.
1. Does anyone know what Mojave 3 is doing these days? I'd heard a rumor
that something was supposed to be out recently but haven't heard anything
since. Any idea if they will continue with the 'Ask me Tomorrow' sound or
maybe incorporate some of the Slowdive 'wall of noise'? 

2. Does anyone know the track listing to the two SLowdive concerts listed
below? I'm really interested in knowing the titles to the unreleased tracks
(I think one is called Bleed).

2. Does anyone do any trading on this list? I've included below my short
(but sweet) list of rarities. I'm looking for stuff by any of the bands
below and also Wire and Loop stuff. In particular I'm looking for the
bootleg cd Losing Today (not to spark a bootleg argument). I'm also looking
for someone to trade mpeg3 cds with. Great format and you get a lot more
for your trade.I'm currently making a long list but this is what I got. Not
all that impressive really. I've included many discs that I have burned for
myself. These are compilations of rare and hard to find material. I can

There were 2 shows in Toronto, but they were back to back nights in May 1994
5/20 opening for James at Ontario Palace Forum & 5/21 @ Lee's Palace

btw, I maintain a listing of Slowdive shows that 'exist' on audio/video.
I'll probably be moving it/(taking it down?) when/if I switch ISPs but should
anyone want to check it out/add information/correct what is already listed

I wasn't at the show, but May sounds more likely, since the Ontario Place
Forum is an outdoor venue used in the summer. They were opening for James,
btw, and that same night (I think...) they played a not-so-secret club gig
with His Name is Alive.

I have the Jessamine album and both of the Labradford albums.  I also have
the Movietone album.  I'll try to post all the info tonight or tomorrow
sometime.

I'm sure it was a mistake and is the may20 show...if so, the set list
is:slowdive, catch the breeze, melon yellow,when the sun hits,alison,
losing today, morningrise.

This was their second last show, before their final show at  lees palace
in toronto on may21 (which was the most incredible concert i've ever seen)

I've been on this list for a while now and have done a lot of searching
through the WWW and various articles and interviews with Mojave 3 trying
to find out if Simon Rowe is a permanent member. As some of you might
know, Simon Rowe is formerly of Chapterhouse. I have found information
making it sound like he is part of the band and I have found information
that throws him in the light of being just a collaborator. The closest I
have come to confirmation is where Rachel says that he moved in with Ian
and Neil. Could someone closer to the band or who knows more please shed
some light on this subject? It would be appreciated.

On another note, I highly recommend to those fans of Mojave 3 that miss
the driving guitar sound of Slowdive to get hold of a copy of the 4AD
compilation Shoe Pie. The version of Mercy on it with the 21 piece
orchestra has some very loud driving guitars. It makes me shiver with
excitement. It hails back to the Slowdive days while still sounding like
a Mojave masterpiece.

Hello everyone, I'm from Los Angeles and just found out about this great 
list. I'd love to get in touch w/ other SD or dream pop fans from the 
area as well as chat w/ any other guitar players out there who have some 
knowledge about what kind of guitar equipment Slowdive used to use. 
Does anyone out there have bootlegs of Slowdive either video or audio. If 
so I'd love to see it as they were a band who came and went much too

I want to know if anyone in this list have some concerts of Slowdive 
from May 1992. I have a problem with some tracklists and I want to 
know if anybody knows the complete tracklist of 17, 18, and 19 
May/1992 concerts. There are two songs in those concerts that I can't 
recognize.. I think they're inedit songs... thanks for all, any 
information will be cool...

ABOUT BLOODY TIME TOO!

MY BLOODY VALENTINE's KEVIN SHIELDS has told
NME that, at long last, the band are ready to release new material. The
band's last release was 1991's 'Loveless' for Creation. Since then, MBV have
become a duo and signed to Island. "We could put an album out by the end of
this year," Shields told NME. "We've done tons of stuff. It just doesn't
always turn out the way we want! But we've definitely got enough for an EP."
He said that the band had disintegrated over the past few years because of
the delays in releasing new material. 

"It's only me and Bilinda now, and it wasn't even us two for a while. But
it's mainly because I've been able to get away with it, really. We got so
much control when we signed to Island, it's ridiculous." NME understands that
Shields' brother Jimi, drummer with Lotus Crown, has contributed to the new
material. Shields said he's trying to recreate the spirit of adventure and
experimentation he remembers from 1988. "I always wrote for the whole band
before. In a way I'm a lot more free now. "It's like some kind of mental
illness. I'm always searching for something - and I usually find it, that's
the weird thing. I could repeat what I've already done, but I don't want to."

does it come with the purchase of Doc's at their store only?  Because I know
a lot of places carry Doc Marten's, but am doubtful that the CD will come
with those purchases...
